What to do?

I have a good sbc block and some rebuilt 262624's that i was going to throw together to put in my 72 gmc 3/4 ton 4x4 but my buddy has a 72 402 that spun a main bearing. should i pick up the 402 and rebuild it with a cam? what cam? or just stick with the small block? truck is originally sbc, but the 402 comes with everything needed for swap including some new headers

Re: What to do?

What do you plan to do with the truck, gearing, tire size? What is you budget? These questions could help narrow down what your best options are.

Re: What to do?

My budget is as cheap as possible without hindering performance or functionality
I would like it to be a weekend warrior with occasional skidsteer pulling and be able to perform in the local mud races
The truck is lifted seven inches and has a sm465 with a 205 4.10s with 35s

Re: What to do?

dont know what "occasional skissteer pulling sbd" is, but fix the sb it's less money. you can "throw" anything together (never get the "throw together" or "cheap" thing anyway). then buy your 402 (which the 402 is always over stated unless your restoring an exact something) because maybe it sounds like you get it for a good price. Good Luck.

Re: What to do?

Is 262624 a head casting number?I don't have those memorized.I'd say stay with the small block. You can get all the power you need from them. That 402 will cost ya to totally rebuild and unless you do some mods (mo money) you don't have that much more power.

Re: What to do?

okay, im going to stick with the small block, the heads 262624 are already rebuilt but i've heard that they make good boat anchors or wheels chocks. should i have some 883's that i have rebuilt instead?
