To be honest that is the first time i heard of it

I seem it applied on an ole' 56' Chevy. After applied and sanded down, you couldn't tell there was a rust hole there. I'm gonna do some prep work on my firewall where I have some rust holes and after the holidays, I'll do the patch work. I'll take before and after pics.

If you search for "Lab Metal" you will find several threads where folks mention using it.

I personally haven't used Lab Metal, but I have used "All Metal" a similar product for minor filling needs. It works very good, but is very difficult to sand, and I have found it difficult to get just the right amount of hardener for small jobs. Too much and it sets to fast, not enough, and it never hardens all the way.

This is a 1 part filler, ready to use out of the can. After talking to someone at the company yesterday, he stated that the use of fine sandpaper for a smooth finish was all that was needed. All thats required is 3/8" deep and he said house hold screening would do well as a backer in a hole. I have some small rust holes and some that are larger. Im also looking at patching the hole that is on the D/S just above the drip rail. He also said this skim coats very well.

I have used it many many times, but I wasnt around to see it long term.
I used to work in a cast iron foundry in Iowa. some of the stuff we made was cast iron parts for Delta woodworking tools. specifically, the overarm for a bandsaw had to be cosmetically correct or it would get rejected.
we had to use that labmetel exactly what was posted in your link, and apply it to any dimples, divots, etc in the sections of these overarms that ultimately would get painted and be a finished part of the tool.
I would assume delta tools would not have tolerated something that would have caused problems within a couple years.
it was used an a large percentage of those parts, not just a few.

im tell u, this stuff looks like it'll really work and hold up. i looked on ebay and there are good prices for this. local, i can buy a 12oz can for $24.50 on ebay with shipping it a lil bit more but if u buy 2 cans from ebay then its a deal. the 24oz and 48oz cans are prices well too. what i like is if you thin it with their thinning product, looks like u can spary it also. great for skim coating. i want to do all the reapirs on my firewall and then skim coat spray the entire firewall. i see they sell a tube of it to for a caulk gun. i see eastwood sells it also

we dabbed the stuff on with a putty knife, and usually sent the parts through a wheelabrator (steel shot) to blend it in. I never saw it come off. we were putting it on brand new metal, with no hint of rust or grease. as I mentioned, we shipped the parts so I have no clue how it held up later

what about for filling small holes in body panels? or doing patch repair work. I read that you can use something behind the hole like metal door screen and in small layers build it up. i read all the website info but I would like to hear something from a non company person with 1st hand experiance with durability.
