Hey everyone. I am currently in the works of getting a 350 ready for my 70 C-10. I am just wondering which tranny to go with. It will be my hot rod, just for cruising around town and lighting the tires on occasion.

It has the original 3 speed right now, and am just wondering if the Muncie 4 speed, or perhaps a TH350. What are you guys running? What would be a easy conversion as this is my first project. Any info would be great.

The TH 350 is an easy swap in and they hold up well. Are you contemplating a car style Muncie or the truck Muncie?

well if you wanna do drag strip stuff then maybe 4:11 gears in the back and a 2 spd powerglide tranny

i would say if mostly for cruising and enjoying and occasionally ligthing up the tires i would go with th350

You can light up the tires just fine with that three speed if you don't mind driving the three speed. Car style Muncie 4 speeds are about like gold right now price wise.
You might also look into a Camaro/Firebird V8 5 speed. That would give you an overdrive ratio for running on the highway.

I'd pass on the powerglide idea unless it was a drag only rig with a specially built trans but they leave a lot to be desired on the street. A well built turbo 350 will handle most small blocks on the street if you want to go automatic or a good 700R4 to get the overdrive 4th gear.

For around town and to have fun with burn outs. was the reason I went with a manual. My favorite bumper sticker, "Real Hot Rods have three pedals". I may have to re-learn to drive a stick when my truck is completed.

It would be the car Muncie for sure. I don't plan on using the truck for hauling anything heavy, so I would not want that granny low.

Not into the drag race scene, well not yet haha.

What is the difference between a TH350 and a 400? Just a beefier transmission?

Go with the granny gear really easy to light up the tires

. I personally preffer manuals to autos any day but thats just me. What are you looking for, auto or manual?

Look for a 81 to 87 Truck with the 3-Speed overdrive (AKA NP-833). I Love Mine! I got it off Ebay for $350, it's a direct bolt on, the only mod was cutting the floor for the shifter.

They came with 2 different bolt patterns, The first is a Std GM and the other was a Chrysler style.

I heard it has the same ratios as a 700R4. (But slush boxes are for girls!)

Thanks for all the ideas guys. I got a car speed muncie lined up so maybe I will just stick with that and see how she goes. Its got 3.73 rear end.

I have just always thought those Quick Click shifters were pretty sweet, never driven one before, thats why I was leaning towards the auto, but gear jammin' is fun too.
