6 lug vs 5 lug
ok, just got another 69 lwb and im planning on using this one as a daily driver. it has a 350 /350 drivetrain. may replace with a 433cid/t400. my question is, is there really any benefit to converting from the 6 lug pattern to a 5 lug pattern. i really like the factory 15x8 wheels , so i dont really see any benefit to converting to a 5 lug pattern. i dont want to get as carried away with this one as i did the last. (my wife still dont know how much money went in to the first one ) so what are youre opinions

5 lug has discs...that is the only advantage I see...although, some rims don't come in 6 lug styles...like the Craiger S/S.

It is possible to get 6-lug discs. I'd say selection of aftermarket rims is the biggest advantage of a 5-lug wheel.

i figured i would get a 6 lug disc brake kit, and hopefully the wheels clear the calipers and i dont have to switch the rear axles shaft....

the tires don't fall off as easy on the 6 lug
I would go with the 6 lug, less work to get much the same place as 5 lugs. Unless of course you want a specific style of wheel that is only offered in 5lug, wich dosen't sound like your case! good luck! cheers, '71

You can get six lug discs that will fit your current spindles or if you choose to go five you can get replacement axles with the five lug pattern which eliminates the rear end change.

if you stay with 6 bolt ...thats 4 more lugs you'll have to take on and off when you rotate your tires..........lol.......other than wheel selection thats the only other draw back i see

I vote 6 lug..
I kept the 6-lug pattern on my '69, when I converted the front drums to disc. It already had a set of 15x8's, but I had to change the front to a 15x7, due to the added width of the front track, with disc brakes. Otherwise, the tires stuck slightly outside of the fender line in front, with 255R70-15's. I also went to a 235R60-15 when I went to the narrower wheel, but I think I went a bit too small. With a 2.5/4.0 drop, it has a nice rake to the front. I used all Early Classic Enterprises stuff. By the time I was finished with everything to rebuild the front end, and all mods, I spent about $2K. I may have gone a little overboard, but at the time, I had the money. I don't regret it, and it drives great!
