question about lifting a swb 6inch

ok the plan is to lift my 68 swb when I convert to 4x4. I am thinking a 6inch alls spring lift with 37 inch tires. I will be using a 75 3/4 for the 4x4 hardware. What all do I need to do have a sucessful conversion that will last and be safe. I know I need to reorient the angle of the rear axle housing, should the front be done? I know I will need to modify the break lines, how about steering components? Also I have seen trucks with support bars running from the axle housing to the frame, should I make them? any other suggesionts would be great.

It all depends on how you use the truck. 6" will likely work fine on the street with 37's, but will rub if you flex it much off road. You will need brake lines and steering correction at a minimum, possibly lengthened drive shafts, possibly a dropped transfer case.

If you use it off road, I would suggest cross over steering. I don't think ladder bars (the bars you describe above) are necessary unless you have a high HP truck and run a lot of mud or sand.

With 37" tires you may need to regear the axles so your motor can pull the truck around without working too hard. You might also want to beef up the frame around the steering box if you use it hard.

gotcha, i have to order a driveshaft for the rear since i don't have one the correct length so I figured I'd get a beefer offroad one. assumed i would need to for the front. what does cross over steering consist of? i've heard of people using 2wd steering boxes (which i have in 1/2 and 3/4 ton)
