I'm getting the urge.... to sell the c10
So i have a dilemma facing me. I recently had my dd a 86 toyota 2wd get totaled in an accident but bought it back from the insurance and am fixing it myself due to most damage being cosmetic. i have always wanted to convert it to 4wd because i love exploring up the canyons in utah. and i would end up selling the c10 to finance the swap.
i need help deciding what to do???

Re: I'm getting the urge.... to sell the c10
I don't plan on selling it due to the dang i wish i never sold that when i was younger. I'm not really losing out on anything right now just having it parked just the constant urge to get it running like a top and getting all the rust fixed and on the road. To bad being a newlywed and a college student theres not too many funds available or time to allocate to the project. I was just curious what peoples thoughts were on the board. And just for future reference what is the best way to figure out the value of my truck. i have looked for similar trucks online but can't really find anything similar.

There is no way you are EVER going to get that SPECIAL feeling driving a toyota! Don't put any of your hard earned money into that jap-crap!If you need transportation right away, buy a cheap s-10 to get you around! No matter what you do to the yota,it will always be a yota!

Re: I'm getting the urge.... to sell the c10
okay ive been convinced i think as to not sell the c10. i can't do a full frame off right now as to not having a garage or a shop. i need some direction on what to do first. so far i have rebuild the carb due to a bad float and am attempting to "tune" it ive got it running last time i tried. It does start really really hard after sitting for a couple hours and the po installed a clear fuel filter in line before the carb and it is empty every time it sits for a while. i think the float bowls are leaking so another teardown might be instore? correct? also there is a decent amount of rust on floor and the rear cab supports. this rust is what i'm most concerned about now. and i plan on switching to a HEI in the near future since i do know the points are bad. What else do i need to work on or be concerned with??? any help is very appreciated

Re: I'm getting the urge.... to sell the c10
i say get it running good first if it runs good it usually helps me feel better about the truck and stay motivated. The HEI is a good inpovement over the points too in my op.

Re: I'm getting the urge.... to sell the c10
I hate to say it, but it makes sense to sell the C-10, you said it your self, your young, just married and have no clue what your saying (sell a C-10 to fix a yota??). So save the time and sell it to ME!!!
Really though, thats gotta be a hard choice and I feel for ya, but do all you can to keep you C-10

Re: I'm getting the urge.... to sell the c10
Sell the yota since you don't have the shop to fix it in and need transportation now, buy good gas mileage car for a cheaper DD, then convert c10 to 4x4 at your liesure.

Re: I'm getting the urge.... to sell the c10
If you want better gas mileage, you can replace the transmission with a modern OD trannie. I found a 2004R for $300 and I'm pretty sure that I can get close to that for the TH350 that I pulled out. I picked a 2004R since it's the same length.

Re: I'm getting the urge.... to sell the c10
I have the toyota on the road. i'm not interested in selling it since its only got 112000 and is in pristine condition plus its my first vehicle so its got that nostalgic value to me. but i'm thinking i'm gonna order a HEI soon from skip white and get that installed to get the ignition all sorted out. then maybe it'll run like a top since it'll get a good spark. and when its supposed to.

Re: I'm getting the urge.... to sell the c10
Yea the HEI is a big improvement. You might check your fuel lines from the filter to the tank. You may have a small leak allowing the pump to lose its prime also small enough that you wouldn't notice. As far as the rust if the floors are bad it may easier and less expensive to just replace the cab especially if you don't have air. I just got rid of a fairly rust free cab for 50.00, just couldn't get more for it but I'm in AZ. Just watch for deals and maybe you will be able to jump on it.

Gotta agree with all that's been said here. You're gonna regret selling that classic to fix that rice-burner! Keep the C10.

Re: I'm getting the urge.... to sell the c10
well the yota is basically brand new and never once had an issue. so i'm not selling it. i don't care what the jap crap is ive never had any issues with it. anyway i was going to sell the c10 to get a little money to pay for school and enhance the yota to a 4wd crawler which i am more able to enjoy on the weekends a slammed c10 doesn't get me up the canyon very well. but for now i'm keeping both and fixing the c10 when i can. she's already semi road worthy just gotta patch up a couple holes and figure out why she wont start cold but will if i let it sit for about 5-10 minutes after the first attempt.
