Inverted Flare Adapter...?

Alright guys, this is turning out to be a pain in the a$$. My truck is a 67..

i swapped to 73+ brakes (rotors, calipers, and brake hoses). both 73 hoses fit the passenger side stock hard brake line..but neither one fits the driver side. the driver side hole is bigger than the passenger side. so...

lolife99 pointed out that i will need an inverted flare adapter to make the 73 hose fit the stock driver side hard line. well, after going to my local ACE, o'reilly, autozone, 18 wheeler hydraulic line store...NONE of them have it (dont think they know what it is to be honest). SO, i figure i will just have to order it off the net.

so question #1 is, where can buy this thing online?
question #2, what is the size of the adapter i need?

im sure this will help out anyone else, because you NEED this if your keeping your hardlines and getting 73 hoses.

Re: Inverted Flare Adapter...?

Lolife is correct. There are two different size flare nuts that will accept a 3/16 line. I would think they might be hard to get locally. I might suggest a trip to the local boneyard, and look for a 73 truck. see if you can find a truck that has the different sized nuts. cut the lines, and take home what you need. clean up the nuts and flare your own line?

Re: Inverted Flare Adapter...?

Male inverted x female inverted flare adapter.
I wish I could tell you which size I used.
These things are a quick fix that don't require you to re-flare your steel line
I just took my hose in the store and got the one that fit.

This place sells them.

Re: Inverted Flare Adapter...?

Yes.
The male end will screw into the hose,... the steel line will screw into the female end.

It may not look exactly like that picture,... unless the steel line is bigger than the hose fitting.

Re: Inverted Flare Adapter...?

just got back from lowes...i used the little bolt thing that have to match up the sizes and i got..

3/8-24
7/16-20

i didnt see this combo on either site..i dont see how/why one would be different thread size than the other.

but i would like to add the 3/8 one screwed all the way on, the 7/16 went about half way..

so im guessing i need this one..

3/8"-24 IFM to 7/16" - 24 IFF

does this look right?

Re: Inverted Flare Adapter...?

looks like its gonna work out...i didnt have a whole lot of time to mess with it, so i temporarily put it in for now. screws right into the original steel line about half way, so i hand tightened it. then hand tightened the brake hose into it. ill tighten it up tomorrow to make sure. ill also put up a pic of it installed, although its pretty self explanatory lol

sooo...for you guys trying to use stock steel lines (at least with a 67) you will need this adapter if your upgrading to 73 hoses and brakes..

3/8-24 IFM, 7/16-24 IFF

got mine from speedwaymotors.com..$5.99 plus $9 to ship (yes i know..ridiculous, why not put it in a regular envelope lol)

Re: Inverted Flare Adapter...?

I am finding out that someone somewhere on this board has run into almost ever conceivable issue I have so far. I am running into a similar problem using 72 model calipers & hoses onto my stock 68 model hard lines. Are these the fittings I need to use for my conversion or is mine a totally different size again?? Thanks in advance!

Are you talking about where the rubber hose connects to the steel line on the crossmember?
