Which Flowmasters ??

Which flowmastrers have a good sounds but not real crazy loud. I had a set on my old 98 that were called Mustang replacemnents back in 98 but dont remember what series they were. Thanks

40 series have the popular Flowmaster sound, but the sound resonates in the cab at cruise speed. The higher the number, the mellower they are...if that helps any.

I have the 50's on my 383 powered S-10, 2.50 pipes out the back. The system sounds good but it's still too loud for me, guess I'm getting old.

Too many projects now but I'm wanting to checkout the Flowmaster Hushpower line.

I have Magnaflows on my '73, 454, 2.50" out the back. They're OK but the truck tends to sound like a new Dodge truck.

Bingo! You're right in dyno comparisons we ran at the magazines Flowmasters didn't make the same horsepower as Gibson, or Magnaflow mufflers. If you're after sound, and don't really care about making horsepower the Hushpower glasspacks really sound great, and a good looking muffler. I haven't seen dyno sheets on them to know how much horsepower they make, or rob.

I've got Flowmasters on an '88 CK, and a '93 Roadmaster wagon. I've also noticed both vehicles have an exhaust "drone."

I have a single flowmaster 42541 on my straight 6 '78 half ton...it's cool for about 5minutes of driving, but then its too damn loud...on the freeway it's just like a drone that drowns out the radio. I'm probably going to put some other muffler or resonator in the system at some point.

40s on my 83 behind a 355 and on my dads 468,mine are dumped and resonates pretty bad.want to change to something mellower but i love to hear the cam.50 on my 06 silverado and i like it.

the original flowmasters you will know they are the originals because they have a 5 digit part #

magnaflows , great quality , loud just when needed to be
i have them on my 72 stingray idle is super quiet , after 3000 3500 it roars loud!a dn the best part they look great!

Thank for the replies and no im really scatching my head as i just picked up a 98 Chevy Z71 ext cab and i want exhaust on it too. LOL

I thought I'd read somewhere that Flowmaster was making a truck specific muffler now that was supposed to pull some of that resonance out of the cab?

Thrushwelded mufflers!! They're flowmaster 40 knock-offs, like 30 bucks each on summit. They sound great, i have them on my truck.

Another vote for the Magnaflows here...I have one on my truck. As a previous poster noted, they are nice and mellow at idle, loud when you really get on the skinny pedal, and they don't drone on the freeway.

I know it's a flowmaster thread, but I agree. I have one on my '85 Sub and it's great. I plan on adding true dual exhaust and another magnaflow in the spring.

I have dual 40s on my 76 and they set off car alarms!! They are 2 chamber.
I have a Delta-Flo 50 on my 88 it a 3 chamber great tone and not to loud inside and it sounds realy good when you get on it!!
I love Flowmasters they have there own sound.(I think Magnaflows sound like a Ford even on a Chevy!!)
Go to muffler shop or car show and listen to some.
One of my friend say that my 76 sounds like a jet boat when its idlen.Everyone looks to see what it is comeing down the road when I take it out.

Have always loved the Flowmaster sound. As said above, the three chamber (50 series) will give a great tone without too much noise, especially if the pipes are full length. My Dad has the two chamber 40 series on his '68 K30, dumping right behind the cab. He's running a 454 with the higher compression closed chamber heads, so it really sounds great. Drones like crazy, but it's sure sounds mean coming down the road ...

I just orderd two 40 series for my 81, i love the sound of flowmasters..my 95 has one 40 series..."they dont flow" only pertains to the 80 series that was designed to fit the stock location of the 4th gen f-body...eitherway i have two 10-series flowmasters on my duals on my daily driven cammed camaro and LOVE it!!..lol

I have Borlas on my truck had them on my Bronco and my Monte Carlo I know they are more expensive than the flo-disasters.

But when i first bought them and had them installed the muffler guy was like man you should have come to me i would have given you a good deal on flo-disasters, hahaha he installed my mufflers and said WOW that is not what i was expecting at all. Quiet at idle ......growl when stomped on and dont kill you with drone when cruising down the freeway. maybe im getting old but i cant handle load exhaust any more.....lol

and by the way the muffler guy now carries borla.

Explain this issue with flow masters?

I would like to try the Magnaflows on the new 400 I'm installing. Notice no one ever mention a model or series of the muffler. Is there a certain model for Magnsflows? I'm going to use 2 and maybe an X-pipe depending on sound. It will be going on an '85 c10.

All of Magnaflow's universal mufflers (what the majority of us are using) are constructed the same. I used this one on my Honda w/ a 22" round body Magnaflow as a resonator. It's one of the few Honda's that doesn't sound like a can full of angry bees!

Im running a single 40 sreies flowmaster > 3 in. in & 2- 2.5 's out. Ive often wondered if performance would be improved if I had true duals .

Ive been told that that true duals would not help & may even hurt performance (torque) a tad . Ithink this is all relative to how many horses you have. My single sounds really good I think . Had one exhaust guy tell me one time a single muffler is actually louder than 2 especially if the muffler is located more to the front.

I have a pretty warmed up 400 with probably 370-400 hp .

Chime in guys , Iwould like to hear some opinions even though its probably been discussed to death on other threads.

One trick that the old 5.0 crew used to use to get rid of the Flowmaster drowne was to use on 2 and one 3 chamber muffler with an h-pipe. It actually got rid of the drone at cruising speeds.

When I lifted my sub I had 31x10.5 and went to 33x12.5 with 3.73 gears.It made the truck a bit of a dog,the last thing I did was the delta flo 50 from the stock cat back and it gave me all the power back I had lost and may be a little more!!

On my 76 C-10 I had dual glass packs on it and they suck!! I put dual 40s with an "H" pipe and ran them strait out the back and there great!! If you turn them down or out to the side the 40s will drone. I put them on over 20yrs ago and they still work great they are so thick it takes them for ever to rust out.

AuggieStly is right about the Borlas they are great and I think most of them are stainles steel.They make them out here in Oxnard by me and alot of guys are running them.But they do cost alot, and I feel that Flowmaster just go better with old Chevy trucks. My friend has Borlas on his 95 impala ss and he loves them,I just think there better on newer Chevys like a Vet or Camaro.
