Re: control arms
I never have used them but I would if I was doing a front end rebuild. I never have thought much of these metal caps that screw into the a-arm. I ve seen a lot of them back out & waller out the a-arm. I've welded a lot of caps to the arm. If I did use the tubular I would make sure they had grease fittings on the shaft bushings. Even the plastic ones need some lube.

You can rebuild your original arms. I would check the price of the upper and lower cross-shaft kits and the upper and lower ball joints. That makes the tubular control arms look more affordable all the time. You could also purchase a set of 73-87 control arms with the rubber bushings. These will work fine, on the 67-72 trucks,... with the correct ball joints.

Re: control arms
the reason is because im doing a full frame off and if im going to do it i want to do it one time so didnt know if they made that big diff i have to buy new ones cause mine is a 68 and im going to put 72 stuff on it for the disk brakes it works out cheaper for me that way just wanted to to know if it was money well spent or not if it handles better and so on

Re: control arms
If your gonna bag it they are better because there is no spring pocket for the bags to rub on, but the stock ones can be modified. I have Airide lower tubulars and they say most tubulars are actually heavier. I personally don't think you'll see a difference with these trucks. There is the cool factor though...

Re: control arms
I dont think the tubular control arms are any better, infact I think the stock factory looking control arms keep it looking just that for the most part. if your going to restore your truck to a factory look then probably would be best to keep your original looking control arms.

Re: control arms
tubular arms don't flex nearly as much as stamped steel. If you want the truck to handle like a sports car (or as close as you can get to one anyways) than you need the tubulars.
How much they help, is something I can't answer. It is probably not a huge improvement, but each little bit adds up. |
