Re: Door art anyone?
Sell it as advertising space.

Re: Door art anyone?
IDK if you're joking...but it's not really that bad of an idea. Classic cars generally turn heads even amongst the general population who have little to no interest in automobiles. Main reason is they stand out and don't look like everything else on the road. Classic trucks seem to do that more so than cars I've noticed. So selling advertising space on your vehicle, for certain businesses, may be an attractive proposition. It's all in how your market it and sell it.
My good friend owns a rafting company and kayak school. I told him about my idea to put a retro looking sign on the small stake side I'm planning for my truck. He loved the idea and called dibs on it. His logic was the same as what I said in the first paragraph. |

Re: Door art anyone?
I'm totally serious (not about WalMart). There was a sweet Dodge that laid out on bags in Medford. I was talking to the guy and he said his entire truck was sponsored. He had powdercoated parts by a shop, welding and fabrication by another shop, paint and body, stereo, engine, everything. All he did was buy the truck and build it.
I have no idea how to approach sponsors (why I never raced sponsored, lol), but it works if you work it. I would love to build something on someone elses dime.

Found this on a nice restored 52 gas station truck... The rest of the truck was every bit as nice.

How are you guys getting the logos to look old and weathered? I am wanting to add an old dealer logo to mine soon.

Re: Door art anyone?
Just lettered it with a brush, sprayed primer over after dry. Next step sand over the area and the letters come back through. Just don't sand too much and it looks old and weathered.

Re: Door art anyone?
I used One Shot sign paint. And you can get a lil matched paint like your truck color and just barely brush it over your lettering with a sponge brush. That's how I've done it. Works good on glossy finishes.

Re: Door art anyone?
I wait until its pretty much dry and then I dampen a paper towell with mineral spirits and lightly wipe it across the lettering. It takes away the paint that isn't quite dry and leaves behind the paint that is. It will also knock the gloss down a little bit. Also in an attempt to make it look aged I will barely reduce the paint and then load the brush. After loading the brush I will wipe it back and forth on a magazine until I am just getting a little paint out of it. I will then start to letter. By painting it so dry It will leave streaks of the underlying color. I know its not the correct year but here is the last truck I did. I didn't knock down the River City so much but I really did on the Custom Engines & Speed Shop part.

Re: Door art anyone?
I love this truck! I have a 64 long stepper. I plan to add logos to make it look like an old dealership truck, that is, if I ever get my engine/tranny/drivetrain swap finished, lol.
