Corner Speaker Install for 67-72 Pickup ?

Anyone have pictures and some tips for installing 6x9 speakers in the cab corner on a 67-72 pickup? I moved the tank to under the bed couple years ago and am now thinking I need to take advantage of the space and install some decent speakers. Don't want to go the sub boxes route, want to have the available space behind the seat for storage so am thinking of mounting speakers in the corner, just not sure what would work best.

Re: Corner Speaker Install for 67-72 Pickup ?

I came across this post a while back, and bookmarked it, so I could try to come up with something like it for my daughters truck, and ultimately for my truck.

It might give you some ideas.

Re: Corner Speaker Install for 67-72 Pickup ?

I would do it just like that, only out of wood. I am putting a pair of 6.5" mids just above that location, but I am doing a full rack across the back.

Re: Corner Speaker Install for 67-72 Pickup ?

chevy_man5, I contacted bigblock73 about those cab corner mounts but as produced they will not fit a 67-72 cab. Gives me an idea about building some of my own using MDF chip board or such. Just looking for other options. Thanks for the reply.

Re: Corner Speaker Install for 67-72 Pickup ?

No problem Ironhorse.

I was planning on using them as an idea base, for making our own as well, either out of metal or MDF.

I was thinking I would put them in the bottom of the corner, and angle them up, towards the center of the cab for better sound, instead of facing straight out. Then make some kind of filler to go above them to seal off the opening.

We are a ways from that point, but there are SOOOOO many ideas flying around in my head.

Good Luck!! Make sure to post pictures of what you come up with, maybe inspire someone else too!

Re: Corner Speaker Install for 67-72 Pickup ?

I will have 67-72 brackets ready to go by spring, if you guys are still interested. I can make them with 6x9 cutouts, or leave them blank so the owner can cut for whatever size he or she wishes.

Re: Corner Speaker Install for 67-72 Pickup ?

Jeff, I would be interested in your 67-72 corner brackets. Do you plan on making them to mount at the upper or lower portion of the corner opening? I moved my in-the-cab tank a couple years ago to under the bed and think that along with a good pair of speakers mounted to the factory front speaker area would be a good set up. Keep us posted on your progress.

Re: Corner Speaker Install for 67-72 Pickup ?

They will run from the floor up to about were the door latch assembly is bolted to the cab...so they will be taller than the 73-87 style. They need to run to the floor for mounting purposes...not many places to bolt them to on the 67-72's. They will clean up the corner of the cab nicely...and the speaker itself will be up towards the top.

Re: Corner Speaker Install for 67-72 Pickup ?

Yes and no, sold a spare cab I had in the shop, now I have room for the 67-72 cab. I should have it moved in this week so I can finish up the design work, then I'll get it in CAD, cut, bent and mocked up.
