I assume you mean 5.3. In short, they are efficient, reliable, long lasting, and relatively inexpensive if you find a good used one.

Re: Whats so great about the 5.8 vortecs???
I was torn between the 4.8 and the 5.3.
I have the 4.8 and it is perfect for my needs and more.

Re: Whats so great about the 5.8 vortecs???
if you meant 5.3 their is almost no way to build a better smallblock for what it cost to convert over to a junkyard 5.3 300+hp and torque, better than 15mpg, cool factor, weight loss, and reliability. 4.8 are even cheaper but less hp 6.0 better power but usually command a premium price tag. 5.3 huge availability makes it a great choice for price and power.

The 5.3 stock is a beast. With a simple cam change they can pick up 100 horsepower, and its not a uber exotic or fancy cam, its the stock ls6 cam and lifters, which can be found on ebay for $50.
