Engine wiring help
I need help temporarily wiring my motor to start it. The wiring in the truck is a mess and I am trying to get the engine hooked up so I can see if it runs ok. I know the heavy positive battery cable goes to the starter (already hooked up). The s terminal on the starter is the one I hook to my switch to engage the starter? Also, a positive wire goes from the battery directly to the distributor? That one I just disconnect to shut it down? it's a 75 or 75Impala 350 with an hei distributor. Is that all I need to know? Obviously I'll wire it up to the ignition key when I permanently hook everything up, but I just want to test start it to see if it will run.
Thanks!

Re: Engine wiring help
The small starter terminal closest to the block says "S". That is the start terminal. Go from there to the battery through a momentary switch to start. If you have an HEI, all you need is a good 12v source from battery to the distributor cap. If you don't care about the alternator, that's all you have to have to make it run.

Don't forget the negative cable to the engine block

Re: Engine wiring help
There's a battery ground cable run ning from the battery to the alternator bracket. Do I need one to the engine block as well?
