Official Chevyguys Build Thread!
I have been lurking and casually posting on this board for a few years now. During this time I have been SLOWLY working on my 65 project. This project started in 2008 with the purchase of the green shortbed below. I picked up the truck cheap and found an added bonus... It had a Fatman mustang II front crossmember and suspension which I sold later on in this project to fund other components of my build. Since this project began I have changed jobs, moved to a different state, lost having a garage, and built a new garage.
During this time I managed to obtain two other trucks to donate parts to my "vision" and have been collecting other odds and ends to make it just my way. By no means am I a rich man and spend most of my spare change trying to complete this project without losing focus or the internal drive to keep pushing on, despite the complete disaster I have created on occasion. At times I have had parts all over the house, new parts stored in the bedroom, glass tucked away safely in the closet and a ton of parts in the side yard that I might just need at some point during the project. I am thankful that the woman in my life tolerates my sickness and encourages me to get it done. I am a lucky man. So today I decided to start my own build thread… and bring everyone who might be interested up to speed through a ton of pictures. Hope you guys enjoy the pictures and the progression the project has made over 3 years. The plan is to build a shortbed, fleetside, big back window, factory A/C, P/B truck that is lowered 4.5” in the front and “6 in the rear. I want to drive the hell out of this thing so I have been trying to keep it all GM and well engineered. It’s has a fresh 283 with a 700R4 from Gearstar and a 3.73 Posi rear. I have always wanted to own a Hugger Orange something in a flat egg shell “rat rod “(term used lightly) paint. So that’s what I am doing. It’s a driver not a trailer queen. So here we go… I’ll start with the three trucks that make up this project… and fast forward you to today. Truck One (green) Used: Bedsides, grill support, inner fenders, (The rest went to a friend to build a truck for him) The PO cut the back of the shortbed frame in some strange places in preparation for a four link pro street truck Truck Two (White) Used shortbed frame, posi rear, front fenders and lots of small parts. Rest of truck given to friend. Motor (250 six) sold to Rusteeze65 on this board. Truck Three (Yellow) Used Factory A/C, P/B Cab, cowl panel, filler panels, doors, and A/C parts. Gave rest of truck to another member on this board. Kept the 350 4 bolt for a future project.

Re: Official Chevyguys Build Thread!
Roller with done. I was buying tires for my dodge and was chatting with the guy at discount tire about wide wites.. He had a set in back that was returned because the customer did not like the feel of Bias-Ply Tires. Have less than 50 miles on them. Scored all four for 100.00 total!!!! Wheels and caps from wheel vintiques.

Hahaha... The Neighbor is an older retired mechanic with an awesome original truck, run's like a top and that's what he drives every day. I see him often on the weekends.. He likes to join in the discussion, offer advice and laugh at us young kids. (i'm 40)

Re: Official Chevyguys Build Thread!
I wish I had a the money and time to spray the whole thing at once.. It's just not in the cards. I have made sure to measure everything exact and purchased enough color to hopefully make everything match... Crossing fingers!
Currently the cab is at the media blaster and should be home next Wednesday. All the metal work is done on the cab... So this next weekend should be busy.. Maybe paint on the 28th... We'll see...

Re: Official Chevyguys Build Thread!
Looks great - thanks for posting. You know we all love build threads!! Love the color(!!!) (what is the color by the way, is that hugger orange or stock 66 orange (i forget the name of it)), love the tires, the wheels, the frame, and the motor. Well, that's all I can see so far, looking forward to the rest of it as it comes along, it's gonna look great.

Re: Official Chevyguys Build Thread!
That's looking great. I like that color and those wheels. My sons 65 doesn't have near the rust my 69 and 71 has, why's that. Are they better trucks? Anyway, great work.

Re: Official Chevyguys Build Thread!
Hey ChevyGuys,
I had a Cream colored Peterbilt with fenders painted that same Orange and I'm thinking of the same paint combo on my '66. Looking good...! Your step-son looks like he does might fine work, is he for rent...? And I'm glad to see the bird houses got relocated before the garage walls went up. Next time I need tires, we'll go shopping together... Keep up to great work and more photos, please. Can't wait to see more... Danny

I'm not much younger than you. There will forever be a rivalry between Mesa High and Mountain View. Nice Build regardless....
