Just quick question. Tried searching threads had no luck lol. I am running 4gauge wiring kit in my truck any input on how many watts it can handle at the most? I already got a cap n am going to run a 15" sub in ported box was just wandering on how big of an amp I could use. Thanks for any advice or Input.

I read somewhere that 2kW is max on 4 ga and about 1kW on 6 ga.

Re: Biggest amp I can run with 4gauge wire

it's like this,, 4gauge can take about 2k if running full range,,
thats not the case here, you're running a sub,, a 15" in a ported box (gonna sound like crap, shoulda built a sealed box but no matter)
a sub is low end bass and draws a lot of AMPS , double the amps that the amp would need if running at same watts into full range,
cut the watts rating in half. as the amperage will be alot more driving a sub and it's power hungry bass low end..

Re: Biggest amp I can run with 4gauge wire

It depends gratly on the distance the wire is being run. If its under the seat of a reg. cab truck, its a whole 'nother story than by the gate of a Blazer...

Realistically and safely, you could run 1500wRMS/100a and be safe at most distances. I had a chart somewhere that had the measurements for wire/power/distance, but I can't fine it right now.

Re: Biggest amp I can run with 4gauge wire

Sweet this is exactly what I was hoping to hear cause I think it was rated at like 1800 watts max but couldn't remember. Just wanted to see what would be a safe bet on what I could run. Thanks for all the input everyone.

Re: Biggest amp I can run with 4gauge wire

I know I'm the minority, but better safe than sorry,,
if you run a high currant amp., all bets are off..
Also, make sure the connections are solid.. a connection with high resistance will melt a 0 gauge wires sheathing

Re: Biggest amp I can run with 4gauge wire

Yea I already got the box and a couple different 15"s laying around that I can use. I haven't decided on an amp yet looking at the budget right now cause I gotta buy parts for the truck as well n pay bills before I buy the toys like stereo equipment haha. Just looking for something decent without breaking the bank that will sound good.
