Gas Tank Removal
Whats the easiest way to remove the gas tank from a 72? I need to pull it out to weld in a cab rear corner.
I have some gas in it now. Should I siphon it out? Or just remove it with whats in it. There isnt much more than a 1/4 in it now. Tried to do a search but nothing came up on this subject. |

Re: Gas Tank Removal
Remove the seat (of course), disconnect everything and pull it out. It's really that simple. I've done it by myself several times and once with about a 1/4 tank of gas also. A helper would be nice if you know someone but not necessary.
Using some electrician wire pulling lube or petroleum jelly will help. Coat the neck and grommet real good and work it in as much as possible. If you're going to use a new grommet (recommeneded) it will be easier. forgot to add: if you can siphon the gas out it will make it easier to handle. It gets somewhat heavy even with 1/4 tank of gas. I have pulled my tank three times and the last time I left about a quarter tank of gas in it to. It is doable. Goodluck! Keith |

Re: Gas Tank Removal
Go for a drive. Get it running on fumes, then come home and let it idle until it runs out. Then take it out. The cab corner can wait a few hours I'm sure

Re: Gas Tank Removal
under the cab , unhook the fuel rubber line from the line on the frame and into a 5gallon gas can..
it'll take a minute to unhook and let it drain, mine said 1/4 tank but took more than one 5 gallon container.. running it out of fuel isn't good for the fuel pump |
