manual to automatic

hi, i just installed my new summit headers and there is a very tight fit, and now i cant get my clutch linkage back to where it was...i was thinking about switching to automatic anyway...can anyone please give me a list of the exact items i will need to convert over and how hard is it really? also how much am i looking at to convert over using all used stuff. thanks,

1.Column
2.Tranny Linkage consisting of rod with compression nut, frame pivot bracket, tranny "C" bracket and swivel bracket that rsts on pivot bracket and engages "C" bracket
3.Tranny
4.Tranny crossmemember
5. New or modified driveshaft, unless manual tranny is 3 speed in which case you may not have an issue here
6. Dash wiring harness for backup and reverse neutral/safety switches. Again, 3 speed manual willl have rev wiring in place but not neutral/safty wiring.
7. Flexplate and starter

CPNE a whole colum??? jeese I'd just use a aftermarket floor shifter.....makes the whole thing a lot easier...run a couple of wires the ignition for the safety switch, and another pair for the backup lights.....

The aftermarket ones work with a cable, so you wouldn't need to worry about the linkage....

as for the driveshaft, you would have to measure the length of the manual tranny and see if one of the different sizes of 350 would fit without mods.....

Haven't done this conversion on a chev truck, but did do it on a studebaker...(chev motor and trans now...)

May have to change the radiator for the tranny lines, or put in a tranny cooler........

Ludwig, he's looking to use used stuff, so I assumed he was looking for a donor vehicle to grab these parts from.

Your better off plumbing to aux tranny cooler and bypassing the rad all together. Most rads even with stick have the tranny cooler on them, there just pluged off.Get a good size cooler to make the tranny last. You also need the kickdown linkage and mount. Most used trannys will have the cable but not the mount that bolts to the back of the intake manifold. You will need the vacume take off that is also on the intake and the modulator vacume tube. I did mne about 8 months ago and think it's the best thing I've done to the truck.

#10 did wisper it in my ear, I was just kinda distracted by milk spay and apple jacks he was kinda spitting at the time....

oh and he doesn't quite get the commercials...you see to him it does tast like apples.....
