Dash Pad Replacement
Anyone have any pictures/instructions showing where all the fasteners are for the dash pad in an 83 Scottsdale truck?
I don't have any manuals on this one and looking at trying to change one out. Thanks all.

the 81-87 is all the same and IIRC there is one on the side when you open the doors, three or four along the bottom above the glove box and ashtray and there may be ones at the top of the instrument cluster... there are slide in clips on the bottom of the pad that work in by the defroster vents

Just adding to what Bob said... If it helps, here's a pictorial of the locations for the 6 hold-down clips along the front glass/defrost area:
   Hope to finally see a new dash myself this week. Been told it is on its way....just when I was getting used to the metal shell.  Mark

Do you have to take the instrument cluster , and the vents in the dash out to get the dash pad out?

A/C air ducts connect to the dash pad and should be pulled away from the vent grilles prior to dash removal. Defrost duct just slips into a plastic fitting. You will see all this once you remove the instrument bezel screws and the few screws along the bottom of the front edge of the dash pad and also remove the two large screws that go in on an angle on the outside vertical edge - once you open the door you will see the heads of those two large screws.
It is a good idea to remove the glove box (easy) so that you can get a better look at what is going on under there. Be careful not to jack the front of the dash pad around to much when you remove it. Those slots along the front of the dash pad in the metal where the clips go can get deformed very easily, which caused the pad not to fit snug to the metal dash framework. I have the last driver's side clip slot worn out from rough dash pad removal, and even though I have tweaked it back into shape the metal is weak in that spot and won't hold the clip tight to the frame. Once that slot is deformed it does not hold the clip well. |
