lmc bumper
Hey, I am looking for a new set of mbumpers for my 76 stepside. I was wondering if anyone has ordered the regular bumpers from LMC, and what the quality was like compared to there premium ones????? I read there little write up about the premium ones, but they don't talk about the regular ones, just say they are replacement...

Re: lmc bumper
Coat the backside with something. The premium coating is only on the frontside of the bumpers, and the back of them WILL rust. Here's mine (4 yrs old now).

Re: lmc bumper
My truck has a set of bumper made out of flimsy chinese sheetmetal.
Not very tough or worth a thing should I ever get in a collision. Think they came from LMC...... Friend had a pretty bad collision with his '79 Blazer 4x4 on monday. A Saab driver came out of a large car park looking in the wrong direction......big mistake....he ran righ in front of my friends blazer without ever seeing it coming down the road. My friend braked but the Saab didn't. His factory bumper was squashed and the left end of the Blazer got a pretty hit. If this would've happened with my truck it would have been a LOT worse though!!!

considering the catalog says "bumper is stamped from new tooling using OE quality steel for strength and durability", I doubt your bumpers are from LMC, judging by your comments about yours.

Re: lmc bumper
I have the premium front bumper from LMC I bought it in 2008. It was heavy as the original and had excellent chrome on it. I also bought from LMC as they were the ONLY vendor at the time that had any kind of warranty on their chrome. A 1-3 month warranty might as well be NO warranty and I consider it as such. # years later my bumpers still look just like brand new, it just has more splattered bugs on it...

Re: lmc bumper
As a side note: The bumper bolts they gave me (The ones you can see on the bumper) were not as mirror polished as the chrome bumper, so I put them on the buffing wheel, and now they match perfectly. Didn't take too much work to do it, either.

Re: lmc bumper
I bought one of the painted bumpers from LMC several years ago. I planned to do some mods and have it chromed after that. It was so thin I didn't want it on my truck. Never again...

Re: lmc bumper
That was for my 82 Blazer when I still owned it. I had the stock bumpers rechromed instead.

Re: lmc bumper
That seems to be the best route. Unfortunately there is no chrome shops down here, I think I'd have to travel to Houston. I've heard good things of a shop called Astro Plating or something along those lines.

Re: lmc bumper
The chrome shop I used is no longer in business like so many of them. The EPA cracked down on them hard and put all the little shops out of business. I actually use a bumper shop to have those done and they turned out awesome.

Re: lmc bumper
ya thats kinda what I figured, my parts guy said all the companies are hit and miss, they pretty much get all the parts from the cheapest supplier, so you never really know where it is coming from unless its NOS...
We will see what I end up with, will let you know |

Re: lmc bumper
pshh you wouldnt catch me dead with lmc's bumpers you get what you pay for.Dont buy it for that kind of money you are not even going to get the hard quality of the orig ones.I was lucky enough to find a rear bumper for me but it only has a hand size dent.Im going to have to fab that out and do some welding but its all good.I just got a large interior order from lmc.And even tho its all nice and good it wont last with usage you get what you pay for with these aftermarket people.Just my two cents....

Re: lmc bumper
The LMC premium bumpers they sell are pretty damn good. Pretty close to stock thickness and decent chrome.
I had one of there standard replacement bumpers from awhile back. Best way to describe it is a chromed beer can that rusts like crazy.

Re: lmc bumper
The replacement bumpers tend to be VERY thin. If you can scout around for an original in good shape and have it polished it would be very worth while and most likely cheaper.

Re: lmc bumper
problem is we have no chrome shops even in this region...so it comes down to a survivor bumper or buying a replacement
