Take off the side of the bed. See, I found a 68 that has almost pristine bed-sides and I can get tem for 75 bucks a piece. I am ssuming 9/16 to 5/8's but what else will I need. I have never pulled the bedsides off before. Thanks!

a cutoff wheel. there are 2 small spot welds at the back by where the tailgate mounts.

yikes, no outlets, better look for a battery powered one, would a metal chisel and hammer do it without damaging anything?

You will also need 1/2" wrench. 1/2" Socket, and wrench, Large Phillips screwdriver, and possibly a toarch. WES

I found taking mine off that once you started loosening the nuts the carriage type bolts wanted to turn in the holes. Be sure and spray the threads with penetrating oil. It also helps if you clean the threads with a small wire brush after spraying them the first time, then spray them again. Yes, I know it is a pain in the arse, but it really helps in getting them off. Also, have someone in the bed holding down on the bolt heads. I have found that pushing down on the bolt heads with the handle of large hammer works well and it is easy to hang on to.

Instead of trying to loosen up the old bolts, just over-tighten and snap them off. Quick and easy.

I agree 100% also if you have a cordless sawsall to cut the welds it works well

take the wheel tub too the bolts that hold it to the bed are threaded into the bed side if you break one you'll be making more work for yourself...

I would go for the hole bed too depending on your relationship with the yard they make let you take it home strip it and bring back your old stuff....a junk bed is better than no bed

The toarch is for cutting the nuts off on the bolts that will ultimately spin on you.

A cordless drill may be an easier find and should drill out the spot welds.

A drill I have. It is in a junkyard or I would go for the whole bed. Well, maybe I still will, they have cheap pices. Found an original general motors horncap in the cab, great chrome condiion (if chrome is what they used.) tghe guy asked me if it was a gascap, got it for 3 bucks.
