to cut or not to cut (radio)
was thinking about cutting out the slot to put in a cd player , but does it take away alot of value and or is it worth it , what say you

first off its your truck so do what you want.....in my opinion I would cut it unless your truck is ALL stock or maybe it has an AC dash also depends on if the rest of the iside is modified....resale value is always tough one if its done nicely then I wouldn't think so??
that being said I built a console that goes from the bottom of the dash to the floor this also gives you a place to put a couple 5 1/4" speakers??

Agree, if it is a numbers matching truck and all that then I would hesitate. If it is a custom truck with after market parts on it then does it really matter?

never seen a truck NOT sell because someone cut the radio hole.
it's just metal. it can be fixed. enjoy your truck and don't worry so much about what others think. |

P O butchered the radio hole & the ashtray just to put this piece of crap in it . I don't see anything wrong with cutting the dash to put in a nice radio if thats what you want . I think it looks good if done right .

here's how i see it.....it's just metal and most people who want these trucks any more expect that there will be repair work anyway. Look at all the hacking and changing people do to make a vehicle built and designed for work into something you sometimes almost can't even drive(not complaining, i like all the mods one way or the other,) or, at very least, can't use for its original intention. My vote is mark the hole really clean, cut the metal out really clean, and if you ever want to reverse the effects you already have a perfect fit patch panel. just don't bend it up or throw it away. If you sell the truck, the patch goes with it. Just don't use a butter knife to cut it out, that kind of hacking gets no support from anyone!

I like the stock radio so this radio speaker box was built for mine. I can unplug it and take it out and back to original look. I have a numbers matching truck so this is the route I went.

In my opinion it does affect the value, but that's just me... If you ever plan on selling it, that may be an issue for some people. I have never done it, but I can imagine what a pta it is to patch one back up. There are so many options now to use the factory dash, I see no reason to cut it. Just my .02, and it is your truck not mine.

If you just want to update your radio get a unit that fits the original dash but has jacks for a flash drive or flash card. That way you get modern sound, convenience, and don't have to cut the dash. Supporting vendors on this site sell them, there are lots of options (some better than others).

Since you asked, I'm on the don't cut group. However, it's a personal decision that only you can make. In my youth I cut up some nice vehicles that I wouldn't dream of cutting up now that I'm older.

Mine isn't cut, and has the radio delete plate. It will never get cut, tuner in the glove box is how I have done 3 vehicles so far. My 1968 Malibu, 1970 Buick Skylark, and 1971 Monte Carlo all have or had a tuner in the glove box. In the glove box stops the theives cold, they look in nothing to steal. I had my 67 Chevelle broken into to steal a $50 Alpine, they jackwagon ripped up a unreplaceable original dash pad to try to get the tuner out (dash pad is not needed to remove to get tuner.......). The lowlife may take out something way more expensive getting in than the cost of the tuner. Outta sight outta mind.

If it were me, I wouldn't cut it either. Like others have said there are other alternatives routes to take to get some tunes in your truck. But, it is your truck so do what you want with it.
