New motor and Trans work (104-105mph in the 1/8)..
I have been dealing with a few minor issues here and there and just got done with a fun day of racing in Dos Palos. This is the event where there are no clocks, 1973 and early, arm drop 1/8 mile. Traction is always a little bit of an issue because it gets breezy and it's dusty, but it sure is fun!!
If my G-tech RR is right (which it's consistantly about .1 and 1mph optamistic compared to the track), the two passes that I used on it looked like this: Rolled in to throttle and did not have to lift 60' = 2.03 330' = 4.988 1/8 = 7.373 @ 105.25 Rolled in to throttle and had to peddle it about 60' feet out as it started to go sideways. 60' = 2.01 330' = 5.076 1/8 = 7.50x @ 104.12 Obviously I have to throw the ET out a bit do to the major traction issues, but that mph tells me it is making the power it needs to to go in to the 10's on motor. What's that old saying .1 in the 60' is .15 on the big end.. Even if it's .1 for .1, the first pass says it is there being it's gone 1.59 with out everything it had with the old motor, smaller verter and more weight (and a steeper 1st gear). I have a few videos I'll post after I reduce their size a bit.

I am affraid it will not be before September. Truck should be getting dropped off in a few weeks for the cage, and I will be doing the summer school semester. Then we have a buch of things planned in August. Maybe I can get the truck rewired and get the N20 controller hooked up before September

Re: New motor and Trans work (104-105mph in the 1/8)..
I bought a NOS Launcher which with the single unit it will control two stages over time/percentage. It can control 4 stages with an add on and also kill the N20 based on a wideband reading (again add on needed).
From the looks of the NOS wiring diagram: http://static.summitracing.com/globa...s-15976nos.pdf it looks like the launcher grounds the noids (guessing based off a pwm). I will run an arming switch for both stages then ground through the Launcher. I will most likely have a relay running to the launcher as the activation from the trans brake. I really need to draw it all up. Suggestions?

Re: New motor and Trans work (104-105mph in the 1/8)..
If you don't mind programming with a laptop look up the FJO progressive. I think its only like $220.00. Its easy to use and pretty cheap. My friend with the orange 67RS Camaro has one and its sweet. I have not played with these but they look like they may be made by Fjo. I used one of the older Nos units and it sucked.
Are you rewiring the entire truck?

Wow! When you get traction out of the hole you'll pick up a lot! I bet that truck is a lot of fun to drive.

Re: New motor and Trans work (104-105mph in the 1/8)..
Yes I will be rewiring the full truck. I bought a full universal harness that has 21 or 22 circuts so I can wire up the N20 off of it too (I'll use the power window/door lock circuts).
What N20 controller were you using from NOS? Sure hope this one works good..

That was cool. Once you got off the line that power kicked in nice.

Re: New motor and Trans work (104-105mph in the 1/8)..
It definately pulls harder than it did with the other motor. Wish I could have hit it out of the hole with everything it had, but that was not the case. 2nd week in september, hopefully I can..

Not sure I am following you completely. I am assuming you make 518 hp on an engine dyno. As far as you cam specs, I'm assuming 284* duration, but at .006, .020, .050 and you are not stating lift. Who makes the cam and what grind is it? What RPM did you motor make peak TQ and peak HP?

Re: New motor and Trans work (104-105mph in the 1/8)..
It's a comp cams extreme energy 284 hyd flat tap.
Peak hp was at 6100 if I recall Peak torque was at 4500 if I recall I can attach the dyno sheet later today if that would be best. It currently has a 2500 stall. But with 295 65 15 drag radials it leaves soft and won't spin hardly. It's a real fog off the line. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: New motor and Trans work (104-105mph in the 1/8)..
Do you want max acceleration with sacrafising driving a little? Go with an 8" converter stalled to your peak TQ.

Re: New motor and Trans work (104-105mph in the 1/8)..
To answer your question, there are several guys with aftermarket fronts. DJ has a Fatman Mustang II, KP has a one off set up that he is producing and selling, others have made their own Mustang II front, and others are using aftermarket tubular arms made by Classic Performance.
