Re: strange ticking noise!
My first thought is exhaust leak, from what I have experienced. For me it was worse when under a load.

Re: strange ticking noise!
If it's a slight tick... probably none.

Re: strange ticking noise!
You've got a sticky lifter. Piece of dirt in it probably. Plugs the oil hole once in awhile. Lifter doesn't pump up completely. Limits oil to the rocker. Mine does the same. Comes and goes. It's #6 exhaust on my six banger. Next time if you catch it pull the breather or pvc valve out of the cover. See if it's louder.

Re: strange ticking noise!
Disconnect the speedo cable and see if it goes away. I'm leaning toward lifter on this one, but disconnecting the speedo cable is free and easy, so I'd start there.

Oh, you're asking about your truck! Oh, my bad. I second the speed-o cable myself. Exhaust leaks in my experience tend to be more pronounced with engine load than speed unless it's a major leak. If that were the case you'd know it. |

Re: strange ticking noise!
Got it! dumped out the 10-30 synthetic oil for 20-50 casteroil gtx at the advice of a friend. put 150 miles on her and nothing now to take it back to the exhaust shop to fix the exhaist leaks.
