Get up and go?
My 01 1500 z71 with a 5.3 and 3:73 year end, when I floor it from a dead stand still, it just bogs and dosent really come off the line like I think it should.
Are they all like that or do I need to do something to mine? It has 285-75-16s on it, but jeeze, you think I could come off the line with atleast a chirp! It wont even do a brake stand on a dry day! Funds are a little short, but I will put money into my truck. Also when I put new plugs in it yesterday all the old ones were covered in fuel, could that be due to them being burnt out and it just not igniting the fuel? Im very experienced in older vehicals and diesels, but new age stuff still confuses me!

Re: Get up and go?
The dead off the line thing is pretty normal for a truck running 285's, load range Es at that(heavy) and a factory tune. Look into a computer tune, Shon on here can help you out. You'll notice a BIG difference.
The wet plugs, is the check engine light on? If its over fueling that much it should throw a code somewhere. |

Re: Get up and go?
Thanks, Ill look into a tune
No light, it was getting fuel mileage like my Camaro before I changed plugs. and now its back to getting great mileage, so Ive just decided it was the plugs, it ran like hell anyways. If ths MAF sensor is dirty, and I cleaned it, would it help much? Im sure if its dirty cleaning cant hurt, but just thought Id ask

Re: Get up and go?
Cleaning the MAF can only help......just don't try to remove the screen for more airflow. Huge can of worms you want nothing to do with.

Re: Get up and go?
Just the thought of removing any screens on this complicated ass thing scares me.
This truck makes me miss points at times.

Re: Get up and go?
gm tuned this stuff called torque managment into our trucks. basically big truck with a sweet motor and a kinda puny transmission = stuff breaking. it really kills the low end. i plan on a shift kit + vette servo with a custom tune for my sierra. they usually remove 80% tq management i wanna say.

Re: Get up and go?
I'm not so sure it's the torque management. I've got a 2000 Sierra with a stock 5.3 and same gear set up but I'm running 295's and still have plenty of get up and go. I have no problem spinning the wheels.

Re: Get up and go?
yeah i have an 05 sierra with a 5.3 and 3.08 gears. that sucker flys. but its a reg cab stepside bed. so its alot lighter than say a 4x4 ext cab. mileage is a big factor to. my sierra has 40k on it. my tahoe that also had the 5.3 had 175k. it was an absolute slug down low. and it had more gear. of course heavier truck. even with my sierra i can still feel the torque management alittle. of idle to say 2000rpm no biggie but then it surges very noticeably.

Re: Get up and go?
Yeah mines pushin 180k, and its got an over loaded toolbox plus more tools where the backseat is supposed to go, I know its got alot of weight, and yeah, it really wakes up around 2200 rpms, and then its like secondaries opening up on an old 4barrel.
