68 Chevy Door Panel Question?

I went tonight to look at a 1968 Chevy C10 parts truck for sale. I was trying to save it from the crusher. I looked the truck over pretty good and found it is pretty much junk. Hardly any options, a lot of rust and Very few items wurth the time to take off.

I noticed the right door panel looked like it is in pretty good shape and decided it would be worth saving but then I noticed it does not have any holes for the arm rest? I tried to take a couple pictures but the door would not open so I was trying to lean in the window.

Ok here is my question: Did they made an armrest delete door panel or what is up with this???

Yes, no arm rests on 67/68 trucks is a low option truck. Might even see only one visor too..

Thanks guys. I did not notice the sun visor. I have never seen or heard of that before. The other door panel is MIA. He says it is around but we could not find it last night. I told him I would like to buy them and he is supposed to look for the other one.

I hate to see any go to the crusher but this truck is rough. The grille is decent in the truck but I would guess by the time it is removed from the truck it will not be that good. The front lip of the hood is decent but the back brace where the hinges should attach is rusted and look like the hinges have been removed with a pry bar instead of a wrench. I have not ruled out buying it but I came home with an empty trailer last night. If anybody close is interested in it I can get information.

Re: 68 Chevy Door Panel Question?

Door panels without arm rests wouldn't normally be something someone would be looking for. Mostly the higher option trucks are being restored to what was on the SPID. I understood that the doors them selves are equipped with the nutplates for the arm rests and all is required is to drill the panels for the arm rests to attach. But that was what someone had posted so I dunno for sure. I'm sure there are other things you can salvage that someone may need. Possibly the hood letters, drums, emergency brake stuff. And so forth. Then scrap the rest of her that isn't worth keeping. In this case it doesn't bother me as much as some stuff I've seen being parted that us in the rust belt areas are still driving around. Five years from now you might wish to have had your hands on what you scrapped out in 2011.

I just thought it was unusual and wanted to learn more about it. I did not figure they were wurth big bucks. The drivers door panel is missing and it does have the nuts to install an armrest to so I would agree that the holes would just need to be drilled. I have 6 trucks sitting at my house right now that I am parting out and yes it is amazing how much you can get out of nothing but it also has to be worth what you are paying for it. Selling a bunch of small dollar items and have big money rapped up in it is not a winning combination. That is why I hate seeing the scrap prices as high as they have been. There has been a lot of good parts crushed.

I looked at the tailgate but the bottom of the inside is rusted out bad. Thanks for the advise. I would like to get an extra tailgate for mine but this one is rough.

I noticed this one had the rearview mirror mounted on the windshield which would not be correct so this one might not have had a mirror either.

Re: 68 Chevy Door Panel Question?

C/10 67 68s have no amr rest unless ordered that way customs and CST's have amr rest's unless ordered with out 67 is the only year out of 67 72 to not have a passenger sun visor standard on all models only customs or CST's could have them unless you ordered a C/10 that way

Re: 68 Chevy Door Panel Question?

Very neat. Was it like a Jeep that the windows snapped in?

My 69 does not have arm rests. With no PS and a 4spd, I don't really need them!

That is interesting and you are right I only use mine to pull the door shut when the window is up.
