Windshield sealing issue

My new to me '64 windshield is leaking at the rubber molding/glass junction. The windshield and molding are recently new (done by the previous owner). The installer would be happy to fix it for free, except that he is 370 miles away. The first glass shop I contacted here said "Those things leaked from the factory" and was unwilling to touch it. Before I get blown off by every glass shop in town, I thought I'd check with the group for possible thoughts and suggestions.

I replaced my rubber and windshield about 12 years ago, never leaked. I did have a professional do it, although he earned every penny he was paid cause they are not easy to get right, he did a great job.

That was his way of saying that newer cars are much easier and more profitable and he doesn't want to mess with your old truck. I brought a new C-10 in '64 and it never leaked a drop. Try to find a shop that specializes in older/classic cars.

It might be easier if you took a picture of the rubber on the outside where the it fit's into the body and into the glass.....I am not trying to be a smart a** but i had a issue myself once....does the rubber have the stainless trim in it ?...Could be if it does he has the bubber backwards....It's actuall possible to get the window mostly in and have it backwards or rather inside out. Been there done that and it took a old time glass guy 2 mins to see and he had to redo the first glass shops work.....so maybe compare the way it sit's with another truck to see how it looks.......?

Agree completely, this is the reason for the response.

Another potential problem for leakage is inferior foreign glass. Some of the windshields that come from off shore (especially the blue blended glass) are made of glass that is considerably thinner than OEM. As a result it doesn't completely fill the gasket cavity, and requires windshield sealer to solve the problem.
