Dash and glovebox overlay

So I was thinking about this the other day, when I watched a back episode of one of Stacy David's builds. He used some pick guard materal for the finished surface of a gauge panel, and it looked awesome. I know there are companies out there that make a woodgrain overlay, but does anyone know of a company that could custom cut something like this? The materal I'm talking about is something like this:



Of corse this materal comes in different colors, as well as types of finishes, such as tortise, woodgrain, some high metalliac like a bass boat, pearl colors, ect. Even some that look like copper, brushed aluminum, engine turned, ect. I think it would be a cool option for those of us that perfer something different instead of it being painted, woodgrain, or black.

I'm with ya all the way on this mate, it would really lhave a nice 70's custom feel about it.

I thought it was cool, and a little different. It looks like there are a few companies that sell these pick guards, that will custom cut just about any pattern. Im dont see why these would be any different than a typical pick guard, just load in the pattern and cut away. If I just had a pattern...

Maybe a sign/sticker shop would have something similar & you could put it over an aluminum template.

They may could, but the cost of Aluminum as well as their work would probably be more than just having the pickguard laser cut out. Besides, I know you couldnt get the depth I want.

You could just buy some Formica, it's pretty much the same thing as used on a guitar, just cut a pattern out of some particle board, lay the Formica on top and use a router with a trim bit to cut out the shape. It would sure be a lot cheaper and Formica comes in thousands of different colors, textures and patterns, just about any cabinet shop will have it in stock and may cut it out for you as well, it would only take about five minutes to do, they may do it for free, I would!

I used carbon fiber. I thought about using guitar pickguard but I think it is a little to thick.
