1987 parts to 1967 & 1972

I picked up the '87 r10 cheap and will use the parts in both my 1967 pickup and my grandson's 1972.

My grandson just picked up a very original 1972 C20 (96,000 original miles with original paint) with new Motor/Tranny (350 carb and th350 tranny) with a bunch of other quality parts installed - new radiator, shocks (air in back) new tires (Michelin) and a bunch of cleanup done.

I think a lot of parts from the 1987 will fit 1972 - the heater&A/C, Seat etc. anything I should watch out for?

I will use the motor/tranny (350 tbi and 700r4) in my 1967 Chevy Stepside. From what I have read I can use the harness from the 1987 on my '67 with minor mods. Does anyone have a wiring diagram that shows how to do this? Would it be easier to take the entire harness (inside and outside form the 1987 and put it into the 1967??

The TBI wiring harness is mostly isolated on an 87 truck. It would be pretty easy to take the computer, harness and pump relay and install it on a older truck. Don't forget to grab the power steering and the disc brakes from the R series .

Thanks Sean, My '67 already has PS and PB (drums), I may grab the disks to have them for the future.

Any thoughts on the heater etc fitting the '72?

I'm not sure about the heater. The boxes are totally different shapes.

You are better off finding the period correct heater to use in your 67. I part out a bunch of 67-72 and a bunch of 73-87 trucks and I think it would be a nightmare to put an 87 heater in a 67 IMHO.

As far as harnesses go if you are going through the trouble to repalcing the whole harness just use a new one. No point in going through the nightmare of trying to make a 24 year old harness that has likely been mangled by previous owners and aged fit into a 44 year old truck. New harnesses didn't cost that much last time i looked into it.

Thanks for the feedback on the heater, I had also thought of putting the heater in my grandson's 1972 C10, but sounds like it is the same as my '67. Wanted to give him A/C.

Mister laugh - so you would buy a 1987 harness and convert make it fit the '67?

I also need a 12bolt 6 lug rear-end for my '67, would like 3.73 with posi - know of 1 near Vacaville??

Would the saddle tanks from the '87 fit under the '72? Then we could remove the tank from behind the seat.
I assume I would have to change the fuel delivery as the tanks have fuel pumps inside them.

ps. I found the rear end! Picking it up tomorrow - 12 bolt, 6 lub, 3.73, but no Posi. complete with backing plates, emergency brake cables etc.

Just started the teardown of the '87, front clip if off, the interior wiring is out and the engine wiring is on top of the motor, left everything hooked up as much as possible to keep track. pulled the computer.

There was another box by the steering column, what is it?

Can I take the air pump and all that stuff off the '87 when I put it into the '67? How does it affect the O2 sensor?

What about all the other things like charcoal filter etc, can I leave them off?

You can remove the complete front suspension x-member and swap it into the 67...I think you'll have to drill a couple more holes in the frame, but you get the disc brakes!!!
