steel fuel line leak
Ok, have spent the last several hours trying to replace the fuel line from the (new) stock fuel pump to the carb with a steel (brake) line that Ive bent myself.
2 different lines from 2 different stores and I am having the same problem. The line leaks badly where the fitting goes into the pump. I have had them on and off half a dozen times and it doesnt seem to make any difference. Any ideas?

Re: steel fuel line leak
Single flair? Double? You might even have the wrong fitting, I got one from autozone once seemed,to screw in right but, leaked, went to junkyard got one and cleaned it,up, not one drop of fuel, make sure the flair isnt dinged, flair it a tad less/more....dont give up

Re: steel fuel line leak
The only thing that I can think of is a thread sealant that will old up to gas.

Re: steel fuel line leak
If you look closely at the inside of the pumps output, you'll probably see the threads do not go deep enough to actually tighten the flare. I've only seen it once and I fixed it by removing the bottom 1/8" of threads off the line fitting with a die grinder.

Re: steel fuel line leak
I ended up pulling the fuel pump off, putting it in a vice, putting the new line on it and cranking the hell out of it with a wrench.
Then I took the line off, re-installed the fuel pump, put the line back on and tightened it as much as I possibly could with a wrench on the fitting and one on the pump. So far, no leaks! When I say as hard as I could, Im not kidding. I am no light weight, but I gave that fitting everything I had. My arms hurt the next day.
