You can run a 4 hole on both an open and dual plane plenum. You don't want to run an open on a dual plane because it creates a weird turbulent area under the base and the air can lose it's way. The 4 hole actually extends the base and gives the fuel a better chance to atomize thus giving more low end power/torque. It also helps the signal to the boosters.

Thats the scientific way to explain the seat of the pants feel I got when i went from the open hole spacer that came on my truck to a 1" 4-hole phenolic spacer.....with an Edlebrock performer and 1406 on a stock 350.

You can use the cheapy black plastic ones and they will work just fine. As you search online, you will fine some of these to be SUPER expensive. That is just because of the material used and how it controls heat. I have used the little $20 ones on a few BBCs and it will help insulate the carb a tad from heat which helps a little. Buy the ones that comes with the longer studs for the carb. You may have to slightly lengthen your throttle rod if you have the solid threaded one. Then I say lengthen I mean back the ends out a tad. Just make sure the geometry is good and nothing is in a bind. The cable style just bolt right back on.

Arguably the carb spacer can be the single cheapest HP gain bolt on you can add to your motor!

I used a phenolic 4 hole due to the fact I was having what I thought was vaporization or vapor block due to heat but later found out the fuel pump was shot, but with the 4 hole spacer I got alot of bottom end torque quicker off the line acceleration! Glad I went the spacer way while finding out the fuel pump was shot!

Thanks, Marty. I just put in a brand new Edelbrock fuel pump, so hopefully that isn't the problem. I'm working on checking possible causes off one at a time.

I forgot I added the red Holly fuel pump, no problems now, but the spacer was a great "fix it" ! ! !
Also on the Edelbrock 1406 I put the acc pump rod at the top hole and have a quicker throttle response response. I live at sea level and the humidity is 75%+ most all the time. So my adjustments may not work where you live.
