My 1st View about the Circuit Rider on the Highway

I got the Circuit Rider back from fine69 (he did an exc. job of fixing the mechanics) and this was my initial ride on the highway under the bright afternoon sun. I must say the ride is quite comfortable for a 40 year old truck and it handles very well. Initially I had to adjust my driving techniques because a 40 year old truck will not have the same driving characteristics of a 2011 Chevy pickup. But…I was really impressed with the overall characteristics of this truck. At 70mph the 402BB just flat out purred and was more than willing to have me push her a little more saying “I can do much more”. But why would anyone want to drive a truck of this vintage 95-90mph is beyond me. Driving this BB truck brought back memories of my teenage years. I couldn’t afford a BB muscle car when I was in my teens, and I still can’t afford one today. Miles per gallon...I check that out later. The Spintechs really emphasizes that there is a BB sitting under the hood at low speeds but the drone was at a minimum at highway speeds. Thumbs up….many of those.
The truck is back at Curt’s this morning for some minor adjustments and I will be picking the Circuit Rider up this Saturday and getting her ready for the Mini Mid Ohio truck Meet.

Very close to being finished...

On the I-71 south of Columbus Ohio...

Mine is at about 2200 around 55-60, and I don't take it much over that.

Re: My 1st View about the Circuit Rider on the Highway

Great looking truck! It's really nice seeing these on the road, and it's clear by the reactions of people they love seeing them too.

I have a BB, but it doesn't have the tach. It really does love that speed and seems to purr right along as you said, but I'm surprised to see 3500. I must have 3.08's. No matter, it sounds good, and that's the way it was back then.

Congrats on getting her to this point!

Looking good! Glad you're getting able to enjoy driving it!

Maybe an 80lb oil gauge too? (Notice it was pegged )

I was thinkin 3.73 or 4.10 too. He did say his speedo's about 5 off (which way?)

I remember on mine 60mph was about 3k for 4.10, and about 65mph for 3k with 3.73.

Anyway, you'll like 3.08 on the highway if you switch.

I did that switch on my old 67 C-10, and sorry that I did.
Yea it helped the RPM's at Higher Speeds, but made it a DAWG off the line.
I remember with 3:73's I could turn the tires over even with a very tired 350.
When I switched Gear Ratios, I tried it a few times and was so embarrased I didn't do it again....(in THAT Truck)!

I have two occupations. One: I'm a sales mgr (Industrial Sales) involved in the Automotive Assembly Plants and Tier I suppliers (for over 30 yrs) and the other is connected to the Circuit Rider of yesteryear. By the way in my sales position I drive 45-55,000 miles a year.
Now the questions is...what is a Circuit Rider so let’s see how long it takes for someone to get the answer. Once you get the answer I think you will be able to connect the dots.

Re: My 1st View about the Circuit Rider on the Highway

Circuit rider is a popular term referring to clergy in the earliest years of the United States who were assigned to travel around specific geographic territories to minister to settlers and organize congregations. Circuit riders were clergy in the Methodist Episcopal Church and related denominations. Did I get it right? WES
