funny story
Over the last seven years as I would be working on the truck and it was in varying states my Daughter who is now 15 would ask why you fixing the truck up and thumbing her nose at it, now has turned 360 degrees since it has been finished and wanting me to take her out for drives and pick her friends up in it and asking if she can drive it when she has her DL.

That's great. Funny how a little time can change a person's perspective on things..... Tell her she can only drive it if you are with her... LockDoc

Re: funny story
My youngest daughter didn't want me to be any where near her and her friends when I had my '82 Toyota diesel pickup. So, when she needed me to pick her up from high school...at lunchtime...yep, took the 'Yota and pulled right up to the front door.
Youngest son was the same. So, after the movies were over one night I picked him up right at the entrance. He ducked down into the floor, but I reminded him that they had already seen him get in. Kids are funny. Life has a way of bringing them around. Daughter just yesterday figured out she was growing up...at the age of 31. Son had already gotten there. I love my kids.

Re: funny story
When I got married I tried to teach my step kids about cars as I worked on ours. Not that I was trying to mold them into me, but I believe people should be somewhat self sufficient when it comes to vehicle maintenance. But they had/still have zero interest.
I now have a son who's almost 3 and he can't get enough of me fixing anything, from house repairs to the family vehicles. my truck has a Carter AFB. I also have a Quadrajet I would like to install someday I have the money for a choke thermostat. I had it out studying it the other night when he came over holding the flashlight for me asking what it was I was looking at. Once I told him what it was, my wife ducked her head through the door and our son exclaimed: "Look, daddy fixing cawbuator!" My wife was beaming, which made me beam. She got the camera. |

Re: funny story
My youngest threw one on me the other day. When she was born in '88, much to my ex-wife's dismay, I picked the two of them up from the hospital in my '72 GMC Sierra Grande, that I had at the time. Through the years, she has also been the first one to be by Dad's side when he was tinkering in the garage. Now, 23 years later, she's telling me that she needs to get the oil changed in her car and that it's long overdue. I told to bring it over to the house and I'd get the pan under it. She looks at me with crossed brows and says " I know how to change my own oil! You were the one that taught me!"

Re: funny story
I think she actually did take in some of the stuff I told her while working on the truck and by the end she was actually coming out to the garage and giving me a hand.

Re: funny story
Well my girls are 5 and 2 years old. The 5 year old took sole ownership of our 66 Delta 88 and she gave more than half of the 72 Suburban to the 2 year old. (I haven't figured out the percentage yet).
They really think these are theirs, and I should only use them when they are in them. They also enjoy helping work on them. They prefer to go out in our older cars over the newer Volvo (they like going car shows on Fridays and looks forward spending to whole day at Goodguys each year). I sure hope this last, because I'm loving it |
