exhaust manifold bolt replacing?
I have some bolts on my manifold that bolts to my exhaust that are rusted out and I'm wondering how to replace them. I've tried unscrewing them and have had little luck. Any help would be great. The manifolds are already off by the way

That's a tough one. As far as chemicals go, you could try PB Blaster. I think it's the best for loosening rusted parts. You could try heating the area around the bolts and cooling the bolts too.

Re: exhaust manifold bolt replacing?
X2. Get them hot and turn the bolt a little. Repeat and repeat until it comes loose. It takes patience.

Re: exhaust manifold bolt replacing?
Try working it in both directions also (tightening and loosening). Kroil it up, and lightly try to work it....heat and freeze might work...but just be patient.
Also try lightly tapping the end of the bolt to shake things up. It may take a few days. Good luck. |

Re: exhaust manifold bolt replacing?
So I've been told.....when you heat them up, but some beeswax on the hot part. Beeswax is supposed to have smaller molacules that will get into tighter areas better than PB/Kroil/WD40.
I've never done it, but some old time tractor restorers swear by it. HTH..good luck...don t. .... |

Re: exhaust manifold bolt replacing?
Heat cherry red as the others have said. The wax thing sounds interesting!

I don't know if you have this guy but its what I have used in the past. I have also tryed the candle wax trick with a little luck most of the time you just have to heat them up.

Re: exhaust manifold bolt replacing?
In our shop we don't think twice. We grab a torch with a rose bud and get them cherry hot like the guys above said. Works great!
