how do you leave your truck alone?
I am pretty happy with the way my c10 been running. I didn't do anythig but put gas in it for 3 monts. I might have a gas leak somewhere but I don't see. Everybody keeps asking me what's the next project. I do want to do overdrive trans conversion later down a road. How do you guys keep temptation down from doing or fixing something that dosn't need it?

Re: how do you leave your truck alone?
As long as you keep it running/driving and do small things, you will not lose interest, IMHO. Plan on taking it down for a weekend or two to do anything "major" (like a trans swap) Research and get your parts lined up as best you can. Plan on at least one run to the parts house while in progress....and give it a shot.

Re: how do you leave your truck alone?
What helps me is I have no money, keeps the temptation to a nil for me.

Keeping the old saying in mind "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" helps me some.

Re: how do you leave your truck alone?
What I have learned is that some people will fix it until it breaks.

My back (herniated disc), no money, and the high temperatures have kept me away from the truck for weeks :-(

Re: how do you leave your truck alone?
if mine is running I spend all of my money on gas, so it work out pretty good.
I have plenty of other projects also, never a shortage of things to spend money or time on.

Re: how do you leave your truck alone?
I have 3 4x4 trucks, one of each brand. The golf cart in my avatar, and a quad. I also have several other engine powered toys...
I can't leave any of them alone, so any advise I could give is of no use to you. LOL! |

If you ever find the answer to that question please let me know. This hobby is like drug addiction: It's pretty cheap to get started (buying the project truck) and you only do it on the weekends. When you do it (start and complete small projects), it makes you feel good...REAL good. Next thing you know you are doing it more than just on the weekends. It begins to take up more and more of your time, searching the web for parts and people with the same interests (this board). After a short time it becomes a full blown addiction. Before you know it your truck is in 100's of pieces and your wife is asking where all the money went. Be careful...it's a disease! |

For me, I'd like to get the stock Q-Jet installed instead of the Carter AFB. But I don't have all the choke parts for the Q-Jet so I have to maintain the AFB the best I can. No money and owning an old 1974 VW Super Beetle keeps reminding me that I need a balanced approach to keeping these vehicles alive. |

Re: how do you leave your truck alone?
For the past 7 years I have had some kind of project going on, drag car, v8 s10, 1968 GMC swb, 1999 Lamborghini Diablo, now everything is done..... Sure there are a few little things I could go back and tweek on, but after all the welding, body work, painting, engine swapping, ect, they seem meaningless. Im so bored right now cause I dont have any major project going on. Im spending my days searching through craigslist for the next "right" project but nothing has caught my eye.... yet...

Re: how do you leave your truck alone?
How I leave my truck alone.
Well Im 16 and my truck is my only vehicle and it sitting on jackstands behind my grandpas shop with a empty engine bay and a stripped interior. My mom doesnt like me driving her car over their so only time I get to work on it is when I can get a ride over to the shop. This is the worst way for my truck to be left alone. So I sit in front of the computer all day on this site and order parts from lmc or brothers.

I think I enjoy working on mine more than I enjoy riding in it for the moment But a 4/6 drop and a set of wheels might change my mind

Re: how do you leave your truck alone?
I've learned about myself, if I take something apart to do it right and fix all the things I wanna fix, it turns into a giant chain reaction. While I should just fix what needs fixed to keep it up and running I always feel like I wanna do something drastic. And this is why some of my projects get abandoned and parted out. The waiting and waiting for disposable money is discouraging. I'm saving this ol' C10 from the same fate and tearing up the "To-Do" list. I'm gonna roll it as is. Realisticly I'll be driving it before this month is over. It is 100% safe, runs great, and looks cool IMO. I'm satisfied with that these days.
