Possibly Good Mod

I was installing new headgaskets on my Outback and about everything else. I noticed the windshield washer resevoir has little pumps mounted right on it. One for the back and one for the front. I am going to pull one from a junkyard, use only one of the pumps and keep the other as a spare. (They are about the size of a matchbox car.) Then wire it into my wiper switch and mount the resevoir in my engine compartment. The icing on the cake is that the resevoir takes on full bottle of fluid. Not 8/10's leaving you with a bottle to store and then top off the truck with later. (Not sure why they all don't do that.)

Re: Possibly Good Mod

I thought that might be the case, I had never run into the mini-pump or the resevoir that takes a whole jug of fluid until I got this Outback. Thanks.

The electric washer pump was one of my first mods on my Blazer. There are all kinds of tanks/pumps you can use. I know a popular one is the S-10 bottle and pump.

My wife has a Mistubishi Lancer with a reservoir that holds gallons of fluid. It looks small from the top, but the main part sits underneath the front fender/bumper. The first time I filled it for her, I just kept pouring...and ...pouring... I had to look underneath the car to make sure it wasn't leaking out the bottom!

Re: Possibly Good Mod

It was one of the first things I did on my 69, also. There used to be a pump kit one could buy at the auto parts stores and it ran well for many years until the motor burned up. I rebuilt the original one after that and used it until I parked the truck a few years ago.
