AN line to auxiliary trans cooler?
Is it possible to put AN line from my Turbo 400 to my auxiliary trans cooler? Obviously am bypassing the radiator cooler and am running a 26,000 GVWR trans cooler that is on the front of the radiatior core support. The inlet and outlet are both push on and hose clamp 3/8 i believe. Is there any option to attach my braided AN hose these? Also does anyone know the fitting that I need for the transmission end? Regular AN hose will hold up to trans fluid correct? Thanks!

A PO put a transmission cooler in front of the radiator on my truck. They mounted it on the same frame that the hood latches to. During low speed towing, I fear the large distance between the radiator and the transmission cooler is too large for the fan to produce enough airflow through the trans cooler. (I smell burnt rubber when towing heavy loads.)
Ultimately, I'd like to re-route the lines so the fluid first passes through the main radiator, then through the external trans cooler (as money permits). This way, the transmission fluid will still receive some cooling during low speed driving, or when positioning a trailer in the backyard with a heavy load. Most external trans coolers suppliers, and several shop manuals recommend both coolers are used together, in series. If anything, using both coolers would allow for the external cooler to be smaller, as it's not doing all the work.

I used steel compression fittings crimped to my hoses and had to remove a little bit of the cooler end. cut the cooler inlet/outlet retaining bumps off and just tighten down the compression fitting. if i was to do it again i would look for compression to an sae male fitting and use 90 degree female sae fittings on the hose ends. i believe the line into the trans is 5/16 inverted flare.

TCI makes a cooler set up that allows the use of AN type lines. I used the largest cooler they offered with -6 lines with a transbrake and 4000 stall in one of my early trucks and had no problems with cooler. Drive shaft, trans bells yes but cooling never. Oh and the cooler was mounted in front of the radiator and if anything according to trans temp guage, the trans never got warm enough 165-170 *F to hurt anything and it went further than 1/4 at a time- with 4000 stall and 4.56 gears that sucked a bit but it was really fun
