Re: What did you get done 8/14/11 edition

Was not on the 14th but yester day i drove my burd to wash it and drove my little girl to park. I think she likes it more then i do. She was talking to mom and i punched it off a stop sign and she bursted in to uncontorlled laughter untell i let off it. That was problaly the funnyest thing that has ever happened in my burb the hole time i owned it. She LOVES the old burb even with no a/c she would still rather drive in it then our malibu.

After dragging home a disassembled 50 Chevy pickup last October, I took it for a drive Saturday. This thing is going to be a blast to drive!

Re: What did you get done 8/14/11 edition

I replaced my oil pressure switch and also replaced the lower speedo cable. So as of now, I have most of my dash gauges working (except for the fuel).

Replacing the lower speedo cable seemed like it would be an easy 5 mins fix. hahahaha.... I had to wrestle with getting the upper cable to go into the lower cable.

I am about tired of working under my truck; this has been the 3rd weekend in a row. My neighbors always seem to come by whenever I am up to my elbows in dirt and grim.

Re: What did you get done 8/14/11 edition

installed new brakes on my 91 Jimmy, rebuilt internals with new bearings etc...rides smooth. Doesnt sound like much but damn theres alot of clips/washers/springs/gears etc inside.

BTW.....If you buy the wagner premium brakes from NAPA, they are made in Canada not China like others.

Re: What did you get done 8/14/11 edition

Got the truck cranked and removed the rest of the interior for refinishing. Loaded it on the trailer since I am getting exhaust installed Thursday. Great day spent with my dad and my truck.

Re: What did you get done 8/14/11 edition

I got my JW Ultra-bell on my Th350, got the transmission and transfercase bolted back together, and figured out where im mounting my new shifter. I couldn't get the tranny in the truck cause i'm just a little guy and the whole unit is one heavy SOB. Couldn't call anyone cause my phone went swimming last weekend and I havent replaced it yet.

Re: What did you get done 8/14/11 edition

Tried to make progress on the dually.....

Today, I welded up the new trans cross-member flanges (frame rail flanges needed the height increased). I'm still going to diagonally gusset them this week & need to cut/install the trans mounting pad. Everything is mocked-up but the lights in the shop went out (it got dark in the driveway ). I also picked-up some parts from a fellow board member for a vacuum brake system swap (Thanks gearheads78!).

Friday after work I 'test' painted the inside portion of one of the front fenders w/some 'Duplicolor' paint w/what's supposed to be the factory color. Not so good. I tried to 'satin' it out some w/steel wool to see if the color diff would work w/the different finish/texture. Nope. So, Saturday I hit it again w/a Scotch-brite pad & painted both inner fender sides w/some satin black (looks better than it did but not as good as I wanted).

I got the front calipers all cleaned up & painted as well as installed the cleaned/painted splash shields. The brakes are now ready for final assembly.

I searched all my local resources for a used, OE, 'car' (4qt) bbc oil pan as I needed a pan w/less depth vs. the 5qt bbc truck pan. No luck. I wound up buying a 're-pop' part but the Milodon dip-stick that I also purchased for it absolutely does not fit. I'll have to take things back this week & discuss options w/the sales-guy. Need that oil pan to get the tin assembled for some color on the motor.

The front sway bar bracket frame-rail 'stands' were knocked off & the sway bar w/new poly bushings is ready to be re-installed w/o the stands. This is on hold until the drivetrain is in place & there's weight on the suspension to accurrately locate everything before drilling new mounting holes.

I got in some other cool stuff but now I'm running out of storage space (the cc interior is getting over packed w/parts waiting for installation) & there's more on the way...................

Made a few bucks on the 77 I am parting out (Thanks Scoti) and boxed up a bunch of stuff to ship to other members. In between double diaper changes I surfed around looking for my next project that I am pretty sure is going to be a 73-80 2WD Suburban to do a 4/6 static drop on.

I took the sharp edge with a file, and then polished it up with a piece of emery cloth. I didn't take much off, so it would still look sharp.

Be sure and use assembly lube and use proper break in procedures for the first hundred shifts.

Washed my Crewcab and finished the upper level of landscaping above the pool... kinda crazy that this all started as a hole in the ground the 1st week of July... too say the least it's been busy!

Re: What did you get done 8/14/11 edition

got these mounted...

Warning... if you ever switch brands of tires, dont assume that they are the same size, even though they are listed as the same size!

both brands are listed as 33 x 21.5 x 15

The Hoosier Pro Streets are 1 1/2" wider than the Mickey T Sportsmans.

now I have to round up some 1/2" spacers... or buy some new rims with the right offset

Re: What did you get done 8/14/11 edition

Friday the 12th I went out with the PGR, K5 makes a good water wagon. Also works well to pull drag on escorts, LEOs playing leapfrog can spot it easy. Anyway, Friday was escort for Staff Sgt Kirk Owen's final trip home, from Air Guard base in N Tulsa to Sapulpa.

Photo from rear of escort, coming up on Sapulpa;

Unit at attention as we exited the highway;

Sat was another escort, unfortunately Oklahoma has been hit hard over the past few weeks. Sgt Anthony Peterson was brought from Air Guard base to Claremore. Usually I only bring my 5 yr old daughter along on the PGR missions we do at the airport, the happy welcome homes. As this leg of the mission was escort only, I thought it would be good for her. Also got my buddy out for his first time and brought his 5 yr old son.

This being Saturday we had a lot more bikes, here's about a third of them;

The kids holding the Jimmy down;

Standing flagline inside the Air Guard base, waiting on the lead LEOs, Sgt Peterson, & his family to proceed through before we fell in behind;

I never did get a head count. Here's pictures taken by a friend who was somewhere near the middle of the bikes. From the rear I couldn't see the front at any given point.

Re: What did you get done 8/14/11 edition

I got my headliner installed and interior plastic trim over a ton of dynamat (LMC headliner). I also installed new dash pad (LMC) flexible urethane type. the dash pad fit pretty darn good with the exception of the silverado trim above the glove box. (the one that goes around the A/C vents; it was LMC as well along with the vents. The studs that go through dash werent really that good, I thought that if everything was aftermarket then it might go together better. The stuff doesnt suck at all my idea of new was just too perfect. The fit and finish on these trucks back in 1979 wasnt that good anyway. I will post some pics when my interior is a little futher along.
