Re: Can i see you power steering pictures for a 69

I don't have a picture, but on two of my trucks, the 70 and 72 Longhorns, GMC and Chevrolet here is how it looks.
My power steering fluid bottle is mounted on the passenger side fender toward the front in the little indent and the hose runs down to the power steering pump then the main line runs down to the power steering box then the return line runs back up to the pump. Normally when there is a leak it comes from the PS box, but you need to take the main line and return line off, inspect them and if they check out good, clean up the lines and PS Box and put them back together testing them all to see where the leak is actually coming from. Make sure the type of hose or rubber you use is a fuel compatible type rubber. The main line FROM THE PS Pump to the PS box already comes manufactured and speaks for itself. Good luck on this. One more thing, I have seen the PS bottle mounted on the driver side fender in other trucks in the past. It makes me think that GM had fun moving stuff around in the engine bays just to do something different on the assembly line.
To identify the line you need, try to look in the LMC parts catalog and it should show you one simular to the old one. The original one is shaped that way to allow clearance under the inside fender well. I went back and re read your post, sorry to be to talkative.

Re: Can i see you power steering pictures for a 69

Thanks guys, it all helps, what I'm seeing is the PO welded a new hose end so I'm not sure what the old one looked like before an why he modded it. I'm wondering if he mixed an matched parts.

Are you using the original style "short" water pump?

Post '72 trucks with a "long" style water pump,... use a totally different P/S set-up.

I had my pressure hose made up by carquest, it was perfect except that it was a tad too long...

Re: Can i see you power steering pictures for a 69

Here is what the return line looks like, it is the middle/little one. One end goes into the PS Box and the other end gets a hose that runs back to the PS Pump. The big one is an example of the main feed line from the PS Pump. The little line is a perfect example, but the bigger one comes in different shapes and sizes.

Re: Can i see you power steering pictures for a 69

When I converted to power steering 4 years ago, the local NAPA did not have the pressure hose in stock, so they made one because they also make custom hydraulic hoses. It was cheaper for them to make it. Was about $15-20 if I remember right.

Re: Can i see you power steering pictures for a 69

My making the parts store guy look things up research has told me that the power steering box is the same 68-75. Something changed in 76 (ratio?) and around 78 or 79 (roughly) they went to metric threads for the hoses. The boxes will look the same on the outside. Once you find out what kind of threads your box has got, you can have hoses made with the right threads at each end.

Re: Can i see you power steering pictures for a 69

The box has the o ring type seals from the 81 on up is what I figured. So I need to make a custom power steering hose and sense its a three day weekend I'm screwed until Tuesday .
