?'s for guys with bagged trucks

For you guys with trucks on air, how often do you drive it and how often or have you ever had any problems? Would you consider bags dependable? As in would you be comforatable takin it on a 4hr road trip to a show?

Been wantin to bag my 72 but all i ever here is how undependable they are and how many problems they give, but ive also heard that if your setup is done right there as dependable as springs.

Just wanna get some input strait from the mouths of bagged truck owners. Instead of people who only talk bad about them

bags are very dependable, If someone tells you otherwise they either have a hack job set up, or are just mad they can't afford it and need an excuse. Every time I see a line brake, it's because it was rubbing on something and not secured properly. If a bag blows(which almost never happens) it was abused. And yeah, compressors fail. But if you hook up a schrader valve to a line running to your tank, you will always have a way to fill up. I Would have no worries when it comes to my air ride during a 4 or 5 hour trip.

^^ I agree. if everything is done right it is just as dependable . just do your homework and do it right the first time and you'll be more than satisfied.

My last truck had air and was driven to the Carlisle all-truck nationals every year, which is 1200 miles round trip. Never once had an issue with the air.

I have had a bagged car for a couple years now but it hasnt seen much road time since I am still chopping it and finishing some body mods. My good friend has had his '53 chevy bagged going on ten years and has only had one line leak in that entire time. Very dependable as long as it is set up right, no rubbing or chaffing on any thing and clean perpindicular cuts on the tubbing are a must. Double check all your fittings and make sure your compressor stays clean and your good to go!!

A properly installed air suspension is very reliable. If you doubt that, look around you while your driving down the road. See that tractor trailer over there? It probably has air suspension and logs hundreds of thousands of miles with out failure. Not convinced yet? How about that commercial passenger bus, or the high dollar motor home? Many of them have air suspension as well, and also log thousands of miles each year with out failure.

My point is if an air suspension is reliable enough to be used in these applications, it is defiantly reliable enough for the miles you might put on a vehicle. The deciding factor is proper installation. If an air system is designed correctly and installed with out compromise it will be "almost" as reliable as a steel spring.

My only issues have been my own fault, like leaving moisture to freeze in the lines when it's parked for the winter at -40, causing a few cracked fittings. I completely redid all my lines last year using AIR BRAKE lines and fittings. They are easy to use and are obviously DOT approved. Using air brake parts also makes it very easy to find a supplier with any fitting or line you want.
I run two compressors, which is a fail safe in case one were to quit. I also installed a shrader valve in case I lost my compressors all together.

I don't even know how many trucks i've had on bags, and all of them have laid out on the rockers. I even bagged a then new 2003 F150 for a friend and the test drive was to a show in Fresno,CA from Phx,AZ, 8-9 hour trip each way.

A schrader valve is basically a fitting that allows you to fill up the air system via an air chuck on a standard air tank or compressor. It's much like a valve stem in a tire.

Here are two camaros one belongs to my best friend and the other to my brother in law both cars have been bagged for a couple of years and they have had zero issues, the secret is do it right from the beginning just like anything else.

Its as dependable as the quality of parts used, and installation, like most everything else. We all drive bagged vehicles daily no issues. Keiths f150 is 5 years old, Wes old truck 3 years, new truck 1 yr, mine 2 years, Johns '55 5 years. Keiths we did replace bags earlier this year, he has put a lot of miles on it.

Good info guys id feel alot more comforatable with somethin bagged and i was already set on baggin my truck i was just wonderin if i would doubt it at some point,
