east coast cab vendor help???

Does anyone know of a place to get rust free cabs close to PA? I know there used to be a couple places that would bring them in from the southwest, but I'm not seeing many options. I think I'd be better buying a mostly rust free one instead of patching the rusted out cab I have.

Fall Carlisle is the 28th to October second. You would have a good shot there.

check the parts board...saw a couple within 6-8 hours from you for sale....16 hours roundtrip plus gas will still be way cheaper than the time you'll spend repairing rust that you can see....there's more that you don't see too

How does the frame rust but the cab is still descent

guy is a lobster fisherman who used to back into water to pull boat out everyday. not saying cab is perfect but i have seen some ( in person and on this site) that are a lot worse.

At fall Carlisle there's a guy that always has cabs and other parts right inside of gate 2

i believe you will probably see some there for anywhere between 800-1500 also expect to pay around 5 to 10 to park and like 15 to get in gate

Well, Carlisle proved to be no help. Plenty of aftermarket sheet metal, and a few vendors with doors and fenders, but no cabs. A few leads though. We'll see how they pan out. Thanks for the help though.

I am heading out to Carlisle tomorrow to get my fix but to be honest most vendors don't show until Friday afternoon or Saturday anymore.

Just got home. Only saw one cab. It was an arizona cab with doors and dash and a clean title but he wanted $1700

The rust repair to any cab could be double that.

One option is buying a rust free longbed truck out of cali or arizona for cheap and parting out what you don't need. From what I've seen if you take your time you can get one in running condition for as little as 1000. 1500-2000 for a nice one...pay another 1000-1500 for shipping it cross country. Then sell the bed (unless you need it) for 800-1200, the gate for 3-500, fenders, hood, and all the other misc parts and end up paying next to nothing for the cab and possibly doors if needed...

This "rust free cab" issue has plagued us all for decades. We all want rust free metal, we all want to build or own project but the reality is few folks want to pay top dollar and dont realize what it takes to get that rust free material back east! Many folks have tried the west coast to east coast metal shuffle business and most find its not worth their time because the bulk wont pay what its worth or what they have in it. Most folks just resort to using patch panels and spending the same money (time) in the long run. There is still a good bit of expense involved in buying trucks (long beds) out west, shipping them back and parting them out but that does seem to be one of the cheapest ways to go. You do have to watch it though...you will need to go inspect the vehicles from top to bottom because you NEVER get a complete report. I have shipped 2 from the SW and both were called rust free trucks and both had rust. There are also a few trucks that pop up now and again here in the south that have been garaged or well kep with minimal rust but they are few and far between. With all that said, the cheapest way out of this rusty cab issue I have found it to buy a truck someone else had built and gone through all the headaches and then realized the truck he built is actually worth 50% of what he has put in it!

Jed. There are different ways of going about it alright. If money's no object then buy one out of the west and ship it in is good then part it out. If it's that much better truck just build it then part yours out.
I'd say just be patient. Ask around a lot, scan the classifieds. You might find just what you need close to home and for much less than reaching out to the west for one. Quite often you can find a project someone couldn't finish and just wants it gone and for probably a lot less money.
Of course there are a number of replacement panels available for these trucks from pieces to whole floor panels, rockers, cab corners, etc through the aftermarket should you elect to go ahead with your own cab.
You can go ahead with working over the rest of the truck while you search for a cab as many do. Good hunting.

WOW! I need to get parts out to u guys. My top dollar cabs sell for 700$ and I sit on them for some time.

I've looked at quite a few cabs around here with no luck. I bought a truck online (mistake) that "just needed rockers and a floor patch". And cab corners, and kick panels, and fire wall, and cab supports, and A-pillars. I mean, the roof and center of the floor are great! Dash is uncut and nice as well. My work is definitely cut out for me. No pun intended. It's not beyond my ability to repair it, I'd just really like to enjoy the truck instead of having it constantly in the garage torn apart. Was kind of thinking of just having a decent second cab to use the truck while I restore the one I have, then use the second cab as a replacement for a long bed or longhorn resto. My other half would kill me if I brought one home to part out too. We have enough toys. Though if I got the long bed I wanted to restore.... Well, I got a line on a local cab that supposedly just needs rockers, so we'll see how it pays off.
