Re: What does this do?

It is where the "choke stove" as it was called went ,it was a tube that shaped in a "u" that extended in there .. it was heated by the exhaust gases in the passage .. The carb had a small bleed hole that allowed the carb to draw the heated air through the tube to relax the coiled choke spring , there by releasing the choke in due time .. they fell by the way after they started putting electric chokes on the carbs...
Hopefully they included a cover to plug it with ... I have seen them plugged with everything you can imagine ,from silicone to wittled wood plugs..

Re: What does this do?

Awbrown,
Nope, no plug... I used the one from my stock manifold to plug it off. Does this connect to the brass nipple that is under the vacuum housing on my Holley? I noticed today that nipple is just sucking air and there is nothing in the tube. I was thinking it is just suckin dirt and crud into my carb, but don't know if i should cap the hole off or if i would damage it if i blocked it off. Any ideas?

Sam

Re: What does this do?

With out a picture I cant be sure , but I think you are on the right track .the tube should attach to a round metal unit with 3 screws and have words on it like rich / lean with arrows. The one from the stock manifold should work , just make sure it is not plugged up , that happens a lot with them...

Re: What does this do?

I used my compressor to blow it out and then put it in. Man, WHAT A PITA!!!! Next time, i think i will just fill it up with dirt and beat it with a BFH!!! The electric choke on my carb doesn't work, so i am in the process of saving for a new one to replace it. Will it make any difference if i connect this "Choke Stove" to the carb? Anyway, here is a picture of the brass nipple I'm talkin bout...
