Looking for a recomendation on a Truck cover
I had to move my truck outside for a extended period and the first two covers that I had totally disintegrated in no time at all. Granted they were not the most expensive out there, I am ready to bite the bullet and get something that will hold up to the Florida sun/monsoons. Right now I am leaning towards a sunbrella product as we have one on the Wife's edge and it seems to be going strong after 6mos. and the quality/fit is very good. Please send any recommendations my way as the sunbrella is 400.00 + thanks.
Ron

Re: Looking for a recomendation on a Truck cover
I know this isn't what you want to hear but be very carefull with covers. I had the ca.l cover and it scratched my truck up pretty bad. I bought the all weather one and in SC we have all the seasons and it didn't work at all for me. My truck sat out back then also.

It sucks not being able to hear! LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB! After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs. |

Re: Looking for a recomendation on a Truck cover
all outside covers that i have tried were good to chase in bad weather and not all that protective
good quality enclosed fleamarket tents are pretty cheap and a good way to store vehicle outside. and can b used for a bunch of other uses

Re: Looking for a recomendation on a Truck cover
The problem with covers is wind. If you live in an area where it's windy you'll have to tie it down to keep it from flapping around and as Andy mentioned may ruin a nice paint job.
I bought a cheap one but at this time I'm not worried about paint since it's not professionally done. I have a neighbor that bought a sun cover for his, but the windy days here blew it down. Question for Andy. Do you think a soft cover of some kind (cotton sheet for example) under the truck cover would have helped protect the paint? |

No matter what a company says it gets wet and mosture stays in the cover for days it makes the paint milky looking on the truck.

Re: Looking for a recomendation on a Truck cover
Thanks guys, I can not do the tent type cover as my neighbors seem to have the local code enforcement on speed dial as they don't seem to enjoy high compression BBC trucks. One of my failed covers was (I think the 3000 series) and that died a ugly death in my conditions. The sunbrella that is on my wifes edge fits tight and can be ordered with the mirror pockets which does help with some of the wind buffeting. I know some small scratches may result but I hate to have a black truck sit in 95 degree temps without any protection. I appreciate your input.

Re: Looking for a recomendation on a Truck cover
I bought the least expensive LMC cover and so far, I am satisfied. The truck is under a carport so its not exposed 100%, but the fit seems right.

Re: Looking for a recomendation on a Truck cover
I had the top of the line Cal cover for out doors with mirror cutouts installed. The cover would be almost impossible for me to lift off the truck after a rain storm. One night we had freezing rain and it took almost 5 days before I could get it off. I had the cover a little over 2 years and I threw it in the trash can. I built my garage the next winter.
My truck sat in the open drive way exposed to all the elements though!

Re: Looking for a recomendation on a Truck cover
I bought a cheaper one from JC Whitney about a year ago. My truck sits outside and gets hammered everyday by UV rays here in SoCal. It has begun to deteriorate...actually has been now for a few months. The thing is blue, and I can start to see through it now in spots. All of that deterioration shows up as a blue powder on my truck that has to be wiped off...
Bottom line, it is failing about a year in, but I think it is better than nothing. |
