new bed or old bed
allright i need some opinions guys! i am building a 72 c10 shortbed on somewhat of a budget but still want a nice truck. now for my dillema i have a pristine stepside bed off of a 97 chev which i would love to put a stepshaver kit on and put it on my 72 but also have a short wide box that is in decent shape other than the bedsides. i am just not sure which way to go i like both but dont want to do somethin im not gonna like later, i suppose it comes down to personal likes and dislikes ,i would like to hear some pros or cons. thanks everyone!!

Re: new bed or old bed
I hear what you're sayin' but look at the wheel openings on the later bed and your front fenders. See the difference? Not sayin' they don't look good, but it's a small thing for some and a big thing for others.
Here's a modified C-10, that has 88-98 wheel openings. It makes a difference. As for your plan to modify the rear steps, 1badgmc (on the 88-98 forum) has done his and it looks good. I think I have a picture. I think he said his came from somewhere else (outta business), but they're being made again by someone else. It may have been Choo Choo Customs that made his.

Re: new bed or old bed
Old. The new beds don't look right IMO.

Re: new bed or old bed
Agreed! Keep your old truck "old". That's why everyone likes them.

Re: new bed or old bed
the new bad looks better than it should, but still looks bad IMO. Only way to make it work is with a lot of mods (rounding the openings, removing the rear steps) and with that kind of effort, you could probably had fixed the right bed.

Re: new bed or old bed
I agree with Longhorn Man on this one... I don't remember the post but I saw one on here that they did the mod on a newer bed to match the 67-72 factory wheel opening and it looked pretty sweet, but you'd better be one helluva good body man so you don't have to take it to a shop!

Re: new bed or old bed
I had a newer bed on my '67 swb stepper for a couple of years while I used it here on the farm because I had the newer bed laying around. Back then it had a 250 L6/SM-420 combo.
Since I am no longer going to use the '67 on the farm we are going to put a period correct step bed on it during the restoration we are doing on it and a 454/SM-465 combo with a lower stance. Here is the way I look at it, do what is best for your likes and budget. If you do use a newer bed and at some time you decide you want a period correct one you can change it.
