Gas Cap/Door Question: When did they change em?

What year did they switch from a gas cap, to a fuel door? My friend said they switched in 77...yay or nay?

I have a early 78 Silverado and the gas caps are exposed. I'm sure they changed to the gas doors in 79 model year. If not, surely at the 1980 model year.

They changed early in the 79 model year. They changed the design again in the middle of the 81 model year. In the second change they changed the size of the fuel filler hose and how it is mounted to the bedside (welded in steel piece earlier and plastic screwed on piece later). Now days I'd say the later stuff is better since you can still get new parts and hoses.

I think Blazers changed in 78. They changed the floors in 78 on them (rear seat foot well) and I think that was also adopted at the same time. My 79 K5 has door.
