Bed caps

I have a 71 longbed. (not longhorn)
what other truck models caps will cross and work on the 67-72 trucks..
will any full sized 8ft bed cap work?
looking to install one for the 2012 powertour.. as I'l be redneck'n it.. and the bed will be the motel.. Tailgating at it's finest....
if anyone knows of a vendor that till makes caps that fit these.. that work too,,
but likely used will work better.. but no idea if any caps that fit other trucks will work...
the used autoparts place up the street always has a few. and last time there thay had 2 that where 8feet but 2 inches to wide..
mods this isn't a want to buy or a wanted post..
looking at cross refferances of caps that may work if I find one local..
thanks for any help..

Re: Bed caps

The only mfr that I know of is Gaylord's. it will probably run you around $1700.00 for theirs plus if you want it painted.

U think everyone would like to know if anyone has a cross reference for these, around here there are tons of covers for sell for less than half the price, but I want one that fits, and not all that high

Re: Bed caps

I have one that fits perfect. It has to be from an older pick up. Any of the newer "streamlined" or modern caps all taper at the back. If you look at the bed rails of any newer truck, they are narrower at the back, so newer caps will look dorky. Hangin out over the sides at the rear. The old school service boxes work the best, I'll try to snap a pic.

Re: Bed caps

Ummm.
The term kinda means different things to folks
across this land. Here are four I have heard.
Bed Cap.
Topper.
Camper shell.
Bed Cover.
Pictures really work.

Re: Bed caps

Different areas call them caps,toppers,canopies,shells...but Gaylords makes bed covers. That's what "they" call them and any other company that does. A tonneaus are fabric covers, not only for truck beds but also roadsters with no top. But,saying it would be a "hotel" pretty much nails it as a cap,topper,canopie,shell...
There was a time when an 8' truck was an 8' truck and these things would interchange. I'd suggest taking measurements and measuring whatever you look at. If it's from a truck like a square body GM,96-back Ford, etc. it will work.

Re: Bed caps

I'm about to fit this one to my truck. I found it on ebay over here, it had spent 15 years sat on top of a shed at the side of a scottish loch. It was I think of a 73 to 87 chevy but the measurements stack up and it shoudl fit. I've had to replace the wood underneath as it was rotten and the tailgate needs some work but it'll do. It has sliding side windows with bug mesh behind them. It came from a company called DVOR in Lake Hopatcong NJ who still seem to be going today. http://www.yellowbot.com/dvor-inc-la...atcong-nj.html

Re: Bed caps

This is off a 78 or 79 F**d, width is a bit off, but pretty good for "get it outta here". Suits the style of these old girls. Handy for carpentry work too.

Re: Bed caps

2 in is pretty close to what you will probably find.If it will set 1/2 the cap rail on the bed rail you should be OK as long as you clamp it well. You might also build a set of "wings" to reach the width of both where they don't overlap.

Re: Bed caps

This was on my truck when I bought it. I sold it to a guy who put it on a late model Ford. Fit like a glove.
