Broken parts warning
This for those of you that have done the "flatten and flip" trick with the rear, lower shock brackets. I did the upper and lower deal (shock relocation). About 5000 miles since. Yesterday, a guy stopped and said something was hanging down under my truck. A quick look underneath revealed a broken lower rear shock mount (driver side). Managed to get about 10 mi. to a friend's shop with a lift and a welder. Stuck the bracket back together (some). Checked the pass. side and it was cracked, but not completely broken. Tacked it back up too. Got it home and removed both brackets. SEE FIRST PIC. Going to re-weld both and add some gussets. pics coming.
. Also whipped out a SolidWorks model of a heavy duty bracket that can be made from 2 x 4 x 0.25 wall steel tubing. SECOND PIC. Going to send those out to the shop for quote. |
