What axle ration in a longhorn?

1972 3/4 longhorn LS9 350, Eaton rear, no ratio on SPID so what would this truck have in it? Anyone know was the standard issue?

Re: What axle ration in a longhorn?

The standard ratio would be the same in any C/20 or K/20 with HO52/automatic transmission/SBC...4.10

Re: What axle ration in a longhorn?

special-k is correct. All Longhorhs have Dana 60 rear ends. All Dana 60s have a tag bolted to the inspection cover. The tag tells you what the ratio of your rear end is. That is unless it was removed. WES

Re: What axle ration in a longhorn?

Thanks guys. I guess this truck must have had a rear end swap then with the HO52 Eaton in there. All bets are off then if not original to the truck.

My bet is that the diff is original, my sb powered longhorn also had an HO52 eaton(4.10 gears). I think you will find the BB powered longhorns to use the Dana 60 crazyL

Re: What axle ration in a longhorn?

I don't know about Longhorns very intimately. But,it is true that any C/20 with the BBC got a Dana60 to get the 3.54 ratio. At least with an automatic it did. So,that would include Longhorns.

Re: What axle ration in a longhorn?

I am probably mistaken. I haven't ever owned one, nor had customers come in with one that wasn't a big block except 1. That was a GMC and it had a Dana 60 with 4:10 gears. WES

Re: What axle ration in a longhorn?

I've had a 70 CST/20 and a 70 C/30, both 350/TH350 longhorns... Eaton HO50 and HO72 respectivly, both 4.10. Also had a 71 (maybe 72) Cheyenne/20 longhorn, 307/th350... eaton HO52 with 4.10.
You didn't list if it was a manual or auto tranny.... auto would be 4.10 maunal would be 4.57.
Big block C/20 trucks automaticly got the Dana with the 3.54 unless optioned otherwise.
No dana in one ton, 4.10 with the big block C/30
Dana rears were founs in a handfull of inlines or small blocks, but gears were basicly the same as eatons, but normally off by .01 (4.11 instead of 4.10, 4.56 instead of 4.57)
A ration is a serving of chow... these are ratios.

Re: What axle ration in a longhorn?

Don't know, but for what its worth, I do have pictures showing Longhorns with as follows
70 GMC 2500 350/auto Dana
71 Chevy C30 400/4spd Eaton
72 Chevy C20 350/auto Eaton
and last
71 Chevy C30 srw 350/4spd Eaton (cc being passed off as a bedless Longhorn)

Also here are clips from the '72 truck data book

Re: What axle ration in a longhorn?

GM rationed the same ratios in Longhorn C/20s as 127" C/20s
