Want to use a smaller power brake booster
Greetings all, wanting to use a smaller diameter brake booster/master combo in my 65 c10build.
Using an 81 half ton disc front end with its matching calipers, 10" brake booster, master cylinder and proportioning valve. At the back using a 1972 307 rearend with drums. What do I need to get there ? All help with a solution will be much appreciated. Thankyou in advance. |

Re: Want to use a smaller power brake booster
If its in your budget, Master Power Brakes offers both a 9 booster and an 8 dual diaphragm booster. Im running the 9 and it works fine, but the 8 would generate even more power if you prefer a softer pedal. While the 8 is smaller around, it also takes up a lot more space lengthwise.

Re: Want to use a smaller power brake booster
Personally I like Speedway, good prices. You also might be able to use a dual diaphragm booster from a Chevy mini van I think thay are 9" but the mounting studs are metric and you would need to run a 3/8" - 24 die down the pushrod of the booster. The Speedway unit would be a direct bolt in.
Don't forget about these: They would make your life a LOT easier: http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Univer...Heim,9329.html http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Remova...ose,45896.html http://www.speedwaymotors.com/GM-Cor...ore,51673.html What can I say - I'm cheap and lazy. |

Re: Want to use a smaller power brake booster
Lenguini,
I hope you don't mind, but i think this crew may be able to help me also. My Q: Why does my brake booster make a loud "sucking" sound until I press the brake pedal? Thanks. Sorry, I didn't mean to hijack the thread. |

Re: Want to use a smaller power brake booster
That bracket bolts to the firewall, and the booster bolts to it, as the stock firewall doesn't have a hole/bolt pattern to mount the booster directly to the firewall. Also makes it so you can mount the booster without hacking/cutting/drilling the firewall.

Re: Want to use a smaller power brake booster
Yes that bracket is necessary. All of Captainfab's items are top notch. I bought his power brake booster bracket and it is a perfect fit, it comes notched to clear the steering column bracket. It actually looks even nicer in person than it does in his pictures. I spent the extra and bought his powder coated upgrade. An absolute beautiful piece.
I used Captainfab's Power Brake Booster bracket Booster is from a 92 Full size Chevy truck (I threaded the push rod 3/8 - 24) Vacuum check valve & molded hose came from a mid 70's Dodge full size truck Manifold vacuum T came from an 80's Ford Ranger 4 cyl (I needed multi ports) Master is from a 67 Caddy (I split the system front to back but still haven't done the Disc brake up grade but I'm working on it) |

Re: Want to use a smaller power brake booster
Farmer, My 454 has a little cam but not much so vaccum isnt an issue. When I was checking into the brakes I figured out 8" would work fine with the tall valve covers. I bought a booster, master cylinder, bracket and proportioning valve in a "kit" for @ $225. MbgMike sounds like a great deal if thats all you need

Re: Want to use a smaller power brake booster
Hey Dudes.
I may be out of step here...but I need a little help. My '72 developed a vac leak at the rear of the brake booster, has the big hose from the back of my carb feeding only that. I Was getting decent(?) mileage untill this happened. My Question is likely moot, But I'm gotta try anyway... "Are the Brake Boosters rebuildable"? or am I chokin on hydocarbo's and it's "replacement only". I have rebuilt just about everything else already so what the hey? Thats why we love em so much ... Right? let me know what you think
