Talking New Guy with a couple questions??

So I am new the forum, I have been reading and using this forum for research for a while now.

I have a 72 C20 that i picked up a few months ago(I will post some pics as soon as I can figure out how to).

I see alot of guys doing LS1 swaps and other motor swaps as well as frame swaps.

My question is: Has anyone here done or know of someone that has done a complete swap? My idea is taking the front end, cab, and bed off of a 99-00 Silverado and putting my 72 front end, cab and bed on the frame while leaving all of the new technology from the Sivlerado. So I would basicaly have the best of both worlds.

I have been searching the forums for a week or so and I cannot find anyone that has????

I am capable of doing any Fab work thats needs to be done and I have alot of ideas on what I want to do with this poroject, But I would like some insight from someone that has already done one.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Guys.....

Re: New Guy with a couple questions??

Thanks for the links and pics.

Not completely like that one Bentblazer. I will keep my entire front sheet metal(grill, fenders, hood, etc...) as well as the cab and bed. It looks like they used the new cab on that truck.

But it is a good looking truck!!!

Re: New Guy with a couple questions??

I don't have the skills, equipment, money or even room to do such a swap. I don't think I'd attempt it even if I did though. If you have the donor vehicle, I'd sell it to fund the LS swap as well as suspension upgrades to bring it up to today's standards. With the aftermarket on these trucks, you can make a huge difference on the handling starting with a stock baseline.

I'm not saying you should try it if you really want to, but I don't think it's worth the effort myself. My biggest fear is it just not looking right because I think the frame will have to hang below the body unless you do a decent body drop.

Re: New Guy with a couple questions??

I want to do this as well. It is not easy, the wheelbase is different so you will end up with space between the bed and cab OR a custom bed or cab. The cab mounts are different, as are a lot of other parts. I want to keep the late climate control, power locks, wiper, ABS, and cruise. I will lose the air bags. I will keep the early dash and inner cab appearance. Have not decided on the steering column, might use 73-87 style somehow.

Re: New Guy with a couple questions??

Im thinking on cutting the new cab off leaving the floor and firewall. That way I can utilize all of the electronics and hvac system of the new truck.
Maybe some of the new dash as well, I haven't decided on that one yet. To be honest I wont make that choice until I have mated the old cab on the new firewall and floor. I cant wait to start this project!!! My buddy has a 2001 single cab Silverado that he will sell me for $3000. I can't wait to get my hands on it!!

Re: New Guy with a couple questions??

Here are my pics, that I finally loaded.

Sad thing is I have to sell it now, my company truck is going to be taken away from me tomorrow. So I have to sell it or trade for a commuter(s10 or small car) I drive 150 miles a day.

If anybody is interested send me an email...ken_zaas@yahoo.com

Re: New Guy with a couple questions??

I can't help you with a link, but there were some pictures posted ( no pics of the build ) of a swap that was done. It was a newer duramax that was done like you are wanting to do. The firewall and interior were kept and the 72 cab was modified around it. It looked pretty good. I would say this was posted somewhere around a year and a half ago. Sorry I can't help with more info.
Good luck with the swap.

John
