Exhaust help!!
I'm going tomorrow to get my exhaust hooked up. And my question is, should I run dual pipes out the back or dump it right before or after the rear axle? All suggestions need please. BTW the new motor runs like a top; cranks on 1st try everytime.

i would go all the way out, and put some stainless steel tips on there. you will probably get more interior resonance if you dump under the bed

Here's another vote for true dual 2½" ran out the back. I'm going with that setup on wednesday. I'm gonna use Hooker Maximum Flow Mufflers with Square exhaust tips.

Thanks guys. I just put the stainless tips I have underneath the roll pan to see how it would look. I would say it looked tough. I am going to run it out the back. Here are the tips I'm using.

Mike is that your mufflers mounted just before the tips?

pipes out the back look like crap IMO, turn them out behind the rear wheels.

Gary,
yes it is. I have no where else to put them. I have a single cat because of emissions and wanted two mufflers. No way to fit them behind the cat, so I split it behind the cat and ran duals out the back.

I've got mine dumped under the bed before the axle. I've done them out back with megaphones but love the dumped so much better.

Dump them babies!! Only problem is stain marks on where you park it. I like the dump sound of the flowmaster. Sweet coming down the road.

i like the dumped sound, they also make everything after them black.. (ie, rear axle and shocks and such.) i use to love the out the back with big echo tips... but as i have grown i have gotten away from them (like many other things), i like the clean no pipe look.

I have mine dumped in front of the axle and like the rumble it gives! However, when I get mine rerouted, I'll probably have them at an angle in front of the rear wheels with just a small bit of the tips showing. But, if I get a stepside bed (which I hope I do), I'll probably dump them in front of the axle again. It's all a preference thing. Run them how you like and enjoy.

Well, I think I'm going to dump them in front of the axle and if I don't like it, I'll go back and get it ran out the back.

Well, no matter if anyone likes them or not, I can't dump mine. I must have a way for the emissions tech to stick the probe in the tail pipe when I get it tested. He would turn it down if he couldn't get to it.
On another note, I lost one of my damn stainless tips today. That sucks big time. I got pissed and ordered two new ones. That sucks too. They are 35 bucks a piece.

Mine are dumped just in front of the axle, gives it a great sound, hooker headers with flowmaster mufflers...the only draw back is you need a damn good stereo if you want to hear music.

Mine will be dumped just in front of the rear tires, barley visible to the eye.
Mike, are you installing a c-notch?? Clean that frame up while you are at it too! -Jeff |

Well, I have mine dumped before the axle. Sounds freaking awesome!! Mike I have those stainless tips that I need to send back. Would you be interested? 2 1/2" in and 3" out. I can let them go for $50 shipped to you. They were $ 23.00 each and throw in $ 4.00 for shipping.

Gary, thanks for the offer, but when I couldn't find my tip today, I ordered two more from Summit. Stupid how I lost one. When I had the exhaust system installed, I didn't have tips on it. The guy tacked some short pieces of pipe at the back. I put the stainless tips over these pieces. I guess the tack weld broke. You can bet it won't happen again. They will be welded all the way this time.
Thanks again.

Yeah I saw where you ordered some right after I posted that. Just a bit too late. I should have some pics of the new engine up sometime this week.
